Taihei Sato has clinched his long-awaited breakthrough on the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO), winning the inaugural Fortinet Players Cup by two shots on Sunday.
The 32-year-old closed with a solid four-under-par 67 at Narita Hills Country Club, finishing with a winning total of 20-under-par 264. He fended off a strong challenge from the chasing pack, with Taiki Yoshida finishing two shots back in outright second place, followed by Kota Kaneko and Yuwa Kosaihira who tied for third.
Sato, who started the final round with a three-shot lead, delivered a confident front nine, including a crucial birdie on the ninth hole after dropping a shot earlier. The decisive moment came on the 17th hole, where his bold play secured a birdie, giving him a three-shot cushion heading into the last.
