News for the 10 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments

PGA Tour - Shriners Children's Open

Tom Kim, 21, reached a new career-high of 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking following his win Sunday at the Shriners Children’s Open. The Shriners Children's Open was Kim’s third PGA TOUR victory, and second in a row at TPC Summerlin. He is the youngest player since Tiger Woods to win three PGA TOUR titles.

Kim now has a chance to reach the top 10 for the first time. He would be the youngest top-10 player in the world by five years. FedExCup champion Viktor Hovland, who’s currently fourth in the world, is 26 years old.

Kim started the year ranked 15th in the world and reached a career-high of 13th after finishing fifth at The Sentry and sixth in The American Express in January. He fell to 25th, however, after failing to post a top-10 between The American Express and the U.S. Open (T8) in June. He had two top-10s over the summer: at the Genesis Scottish Open and a runner-up finish at The Open Championship.

Kim has finished in the top 25 in his last eight worldwide events, including five top-10s. That includes his success in Scotland, a T10 at the second FedExCup Playoffs event, the BMW Championship, and T6 at the DP World Tour’s Cazoo Open de France. Kim also qualified for his second consecutive TOUR Championship.

The success coincides with a switch to swing coach Chris Como during the late summer and has come despite an ankle injury that he suffered at The Open and forced him to withdraw from the Wyndham Championship, where he won his first PGA TOUR title.

“It was so hard for me to be at home the week of Wyndham,” Kim said Sunday. “It was very frustrating personally as a player because it was my first win, and I was so determined to come back to Shriners at least being healthy and at least have a chance to win as a defending champion. Winning this week is just making me miss that week even more, my first win. Not to have even a chance to compete out there, as a player, it's hard.”

Asian Tour - SJM Macao Open

Australia’s Min Woo Lee recorded an exceptional two-shot wire-to-wire victory in the US$1 million SJM Macao Open today, for his first title in two years. The tournament’s marquee player, ranked 46 in the world, hit crushing drives and holed putt after putt to card an eight-under-par 63 for an astonishing four-round aggregate of 30-under – a new tournament record and two shots short of the Asian Tour record, although preferred lies were played on the first two days.

Thailand’s Poom Saksansin also fired a 63, like Lee bogey-free, and finished second after a fascinating final day dual between the big-hitting Australian and the tenacious little Thai golfer, hoping to replicate one of his giant-killing acts of the past. Lee started the day with a two-shot lead over Poom and the margin was the same at the turn after both players pulled away from the field playing brilliant golf with four birdies apiece.

“I love it,” said 25-year-old Lee, who opened with rounds of 62, 64 and 65.

“As soon as the week started I had a couple of days rest because of the typhoon, and the course was looking amazing from the beginning. Obviously, it was pretty bad for a couple of days there, so it was props to the green keepers for keeping the course in such good condition.

“And yeah, I played wonderful, really flawless golf for a lot of the holes, there was only a few holes that I could really look back on. But yeah, I’m really proud of the way I handled myself.”

DP World Tour - acciona Open de España presented by Madrid

Matthieu Pavon powered to a maiden DP World Tour title in wire-to-wire style as he won the acciona Open de España presented by Madrid by four shots in the Spanish capital. The Frenchman arrived at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid with three runner-up finishes on both the European Challenge and DP World Tours but had never won a European Tour group event despite being an incredibly consistent performer over eight seasons.

One of those runner-up finishes was here 12 months ago but he always looked like going one better after an opening 63 and followed up with rounds of 68-66-64 to get to 23 under and claim an ultimately convincing victory.

South African Zander Lombard carded a bogey-free 64 to finish as the nearest challenger, one clear of England's Nathan Kimsey and two ahead of German Marcel Siem and Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti.

Pavon claimed a maiden professional win on the Alps Tour in 2014 and followed up with another in 2015, the same year he earned a Challenge Tour card by reaching the final stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School.

His single season on the Challenge Tour saw him finish sixth on the Road to Mallorca with the help of those second-places and since then, he has finished in the top 100 on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex in every year barring one. Pavon has also now moved to his best position held in the Official World Golf Ranking now a 115th

Japan Golf Tour - Japan Open Golf Championship

Third-year professional, Aguri Iwasaki, secured his maiden JGTO title, a major one, with a two-shot victory over Ryo Ishikawa at the Japan Open Golf Championship on Sunday. The 25-year-old Iwasaki, who began the final round three shots off the lead, carded a five-under-par 65 after mixing six birdies with a bogey to finish with an aggregate of eight-under 272.

This victory provided a much-needed boost after he struggled throughout the entire season, both abroad and domestically. Ishikawa finished alone in second place after shooting a 68 at the Ibaraki Country Club.

The penultimate round leader, Sejung Hiramoto, could only manage a 73, settling for a five-way tie for third on 277 including Australian veteran Brad Kennedy (69) and joint first-round leader Mikumu Horikawa (68).

Perseverance indeed paid off for Iwasaki, as this win is sure to rejuvenate his lacklustre season. Iwasaki ventured to Europe to participate in the DP World Tour, a position he achieved through a conditional status earned by his third-place finish in the JGTO money rankings the previous year.

However, his performance there was disappointing, making the cut in only three out of 15 appearances. Back home, Iwasaki's struggles continued. In the last nine starts before today's victory, he qualified for the weekend in just four events, with a tied-18th at the season-opening Token Homemate Cup being his best finish.

"Initially, the victory felt surreal. I've been overwhelmed by the outpouring of congratulatory messages. It's truly the most joyous occasion of my life," said Iwasaki, after pocketing ¥42,000,000 jackpot for his effort.

"Starting the day three shots back, I knew I had to bring my A-game.

"Throughout the back nine, my focus wasn’t on the win but on each upcoming shot. I navigated the challenging conditions without letting the pressure weigh me down."

Challenge Tour,China Tour - Hainan Open

Ricardo Gouveia posted a five under par final round of 67 to clinch his seventh European Challenge Tour victory at the Hainan Open. The Portuguese entered the fourth round three shots off the lead but after mixing six birdies with one bogey, he climbed to the top of the leaderboard and secured a three-shot victory at Danzhou Ancient Saltern Golf Club.

Gouveia joins Englishman Warren Bennett in second place on the all-time Challenge Tour winners list, one behind England’s Iain Pyman who has eight victories.

The 32-year-old climbs to tenth position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings ahead of the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A and is in a strong position to regain his DP World Tour playing privileges for 2024.

“It was an amazing day today," he said. "It was really tough in those conditions and I played very well on the back nine. “I stayed very patient out there and took my chances when they arrived. I knew the last few holes were playing into the wind and I’m so happy to get the win.

“This is probably my second favourite win after my first victory on the Challenge Tour. At the beginning of the year my plan was to play on the DP World Tour but after I won the Abu Dhabi Challenge it changed my mindset and I’m so glad I made the decision to play on the Challenge Tour.

"I’m focused on returning to the DP World Tour and this win is so important for me.”

Sunshine Tour - Blue Label Challenge

Making birdies is usually the name of the game in the modified scoring system used by the Blue Label Challenge, but making 15 pars was at the centre of Luca Filippi’s success on Saturday as he claimed the title by two points at the Gary Player Country Club.

Filippi, who went into the final round leading by six points, had to recover from a tough start in which he bogeyed the fourth and sixth holes to lose two points. But after his mishap at the par-four sixth, Filippi did not drop another shot, his eight pars in a row being interrupted by a crucial birdie, worth two points, on the par-four 15th hole. The 24-year-old then parred his way home, despite high drama on the last hole when he hit his approach into the water but managed to get up-and-down for par on the par-five.

That left Filippi on 34 points, two ahead of Ryan van Velzen and Keenan Davidse. Van Velzen pushed Filippi hard with a seven-point haul, but he made crucial bogeys on the 13th and 17th holes, while Davidse scored four points on the back nine but paid dearly for a pair of bogeys on the second and third holes, and then four in a row from the sixth.

“It was a tough day with guys seeming to struggle to control their ball-flight in the hot weather, it went a bit further today,” Filippi said. “It was weird that I wasn’t that nervous because in this format it’s anyone’s game and I knew I was always in play.

Asian Development Tour - The 2nd Indo Masters Golf Invitational presented by TNE

Deyen Lawson of Australia chipped in on the first hole of a play-off to win the second Indo Masters presented by TNE today, beating Thailand’s Charng-Tai Sudsom for his first win on the Asian Development Tour (ADT).

Lawson, who posted the low round of the day with a 65 to push himself into contention, appeared to be facing a disappointing second place from the clubhouse as Charng-Tai teed off on 18 with a one-shot lead at Imperial Klub Golf. However, when a misplaced lay-up shot by Charng-Tai found the water, and when he could not get up and down from the drop, his bogey finish for a 66 meant the pair had to head out for a play-off.

On the par-five 18th, and with both players unable to make the green with their second shots, the hole was still open. Despite Charng-Tai’s best efforts to get close from a difficult lie, once Lawson chipped in from 20 yards, it was game over.

Said Lawson after his win: “It’s been close for the last few weeks and I’ve been playing solid, so it’s really good to get over the line.

“It was good to chip in to win,” he added. “You practice that shot all the time on the chipping green but you never really expect it to happen in a play-off so that was pretty fortunate. I’m really happy.”

With the win and several top 10 placings this season, Lawson is now leading the ADT Order of Merit as the season draws to a conclusion. “Obviously I want to finish in the top 10 to get an Asian Tour card,” he said, “but you never get sick of winning, no matter where it is, so I’m really excited.”

Nordic Golf League - The #1 Tour Final in Golf

The final day of The # 1 Tour Final in Golf at PGA Sweden national ended with a Danish victory for Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen. The Søllerød player got the perfect start to the round with the eagle on the second hole and the birdie on the 3rd and 4th holes. Thus, Finnish Matias Honkala, who led before the last 18 holes, was not only obtained but also overtaken in the overall position. The Gøth-Rasmussen scored another eagle on the 8th hole and was suddenly ahead with four strokes.

He never put that lead in control, even though it suddenly seemed exciting towards the end of the round. Honkala made a birdie on the 11th and 13th holes, while Gøth-Rasmussen made bogey on the 14th hole. Then there was only one battle between the two. However, the excitement disappeared soon after, when Honkala scored triple bogey on the 16th hole and bogey on the 17th hole. Thus, it did not matter that Gøth-Rasmussen again ended with three bogeys in a row today. It ended with a nice round in 69 strokes and a victory.

Congratulations to Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen who before this win failed to make the cut in the last two tournaments on the Nordic Golf League.

PGA Tour of Australasia - CKB WA PGA Championship presented by TX Civil & Logistics

Ben Eccles didn’t dare look at the leaderboard once as he endured “the most uncomfortable” round of his life to win the CKB WA PGA Championship at Kalgoorlie Golf Course. A six-shot leader through 54-holes, Eccles’ 23-under total and five-stroke victory masks the turmoil of a restless night’s sleep, two chats with coach Grant Field between rounds and a host of challengers who bridged the gap to just three before the final group made the turn.

If he’d cared to look, Eccles would have known that Haydn Barron (65), Lachlan Barker (70), Kit Bittle (70), James Gibellini (67) and James Marchesani (69) fancied their chances of reeling in the runaway leader at various times in the final round.

Par putts at seven and eight would prove crucial in Eccles holding his nerve, but it was a holed bunker shot on nine that he called the “best shot I’ve ever hit” and a duffed approach that went to a foot to set up birdie on 10 that would ultimately keep the pack at bay.

Barron loomed as the greatest threat had Eccles lost his nerve, but birdies at 16 and 17 ensured the 28-year-old would play the final hole five strokes clear. Not that he knew that.

“I had no idea,” Eccles said of the leaderboard that changed furiously below his name. “I knew I had to keep pushing. There are so many good players in there… I haven’t even looked at the leaderboard. Who came second? When you’ve got someone like that (Barron) in contention, you know he’s going to shoot a good score.

“You know he’s made for that moment so I said to myself on the 10th tee, ‘Stick to what you’ve been doing, keep applying yourself the way you want, keep trying to play the game the way that you want to play it.’”
