Scheffler retakes the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking from Rory McIlroy (70, T32), he's the first to go back-to-back here since Hideki Matsuyama in 2017.
News for the 9 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments
PGA Tour - WM Phoenix Open
In tricky winds, Scottie Scheffler hit just five of 14 fairways for the second straight day at TPC Scottsdale, but he led the field in approaches and scrambling, made only two bogeys all week, and scratched out a final-round 65 (19 under par total) to successfully defend his WM Phoenix Open title.
Nick Taylor (65) finished second, two back, and Jon Rahm (68) was third, five behind.
Scheffler, who now retakes the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking from Rory McIlroy (70, T32), he’s the first to go back-to-back here since Hideki Matsuyama in 2017. He’s the third player to successfully defend a title this season, after Max Homa at the Fortinet Championship and McIlroy at THE CJ CUP in South Carolina.
“Yeah, I think today was probably a pretty good example of that,” Scheffler said of winning at less than his best. “I hit some wild shots off the tee that were pretty uncharacteristic for how I usually shape the ball. I was just able to grind it out, make a lot of putts.”
Just like last year, he celebrated with caddie Ted Scott and his wife Meredith. His pal Sam Burns (68, T6) also watched from behind the 18th green, as did five friends who flew in from Dallas.

Challenge Tour & Sunshine Tour - Dimension Data Pro-Am
Oliver Bekker claimed his second Dimension Data Pro-Am title in a dominant display at Fancourt on Sunday as he won by four shots in front of his home crowd.
Bekker took a five-shot lead into the final round and closed with a measured 68 on the Montagu course to win on 22 under par overall. Sweden’s Adam Blomme took second place on 18 under par with a final round of 66.
Bekker first won this title in 2012 and is now only the third player since the tournament’s inception in 1996 to win the Dimension Data Pro-Am twice, joining Nick Price (1997 and 1998) and Darren Fichardt (2004 and 2010).
“When you start with such a big lead it’s almost a relief that you didn’t waste it. It’s amazing to be here in front of my family and friends. It’s not often you play a golf tournament and you’ve got a hundred people following you and you know almost all of them. I’m just elated,” said Bekker.
On another magnificent day on the Garden Route, Bekker parred his way through the first seven holes before his first birdie of the final round on the par-three eighth hole. He added four more birdies on the back nine and could afford a single bogey, to put himself well and truly beyond reach.

Asian Tour - International Series Oman
Japan’s Takumi Kanaya secured a convincing victory in the US$2 million International Series Oman today to record his first professional victory outside of Japan and suggest that the gifted young golfer is coming of age.
The 24-year-old from Hiroshima shot a final round one-under-par 71 to finish on 10 under and beat American Berry Henson (70) and Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana (72) by four strokes.
England’s Steve Lewton (71) finished fourth one shot further back while Spain’s Sergio Garcia and Joaquin Niemann from Chile, both in with 74s, tied for fifth another two strokes behind.
The stunning scenic coastline of Al Mouj Golf provided the perfect background for some brilliant front-running golf by Kanaya, already a three-time winner on home soil who has been striving to make his mark on the international stage.
He finally achieved that today with an eye-catching performance in what is the second event of the season on the Asian Tour and the first of the year’s International Series tournaments.
“It is an honour to win the event, an International Series tournament,” said Kanaya, after what is also his first win since April of 2021 when he won the Token Homemate Cup, on the Japan Tour.
“It has been a difficult two years but I am so happy to finally win again.”

DP World Tour - Singapore Classic
Ockie Strydom produces a birdie blitz to win in Singapore, moving to his best position held in the World Ranking now a 149th in the World. The South African Ockie Strydom fired a sizzling 63 in his final round to win the 2023 Singapore Classic. It was a second DP World Tour win in six starts for Strydom after he managed nine birdies and no dropped shots on his way to the low round of the week and a 19-under-par total.
That was good enough for a one-shot victory over Sami Välimäki, who looked on course for the win midway through the final day, with Marcel Schneider, Jeunghun Wang and Alejandro del Rey on 15 under.
Strydom was four shots off the pace overnight with Wang and Del Rey out in front at Laguna National Golf Resort Club. While Wang never really got going, Del Rey threatened to run away with it with three straight birdies kicking off his Sunday before a double bogey at the sixth put the brakes on.
The South African climbed into a share of the lead when he made it back-to-back birdies at the 14th but Välimäki was back in front after taking advantage of the 13th. His eagle attempt all the way across the green left a tap-in for him to go out on his own again.
His birdie putt at the long 14th stayed above ground but Strydom missing his own attempt from around nine feet at the 15th kept Välimäki in pole position. But Strydom was far from finished. He rolled in a tricky downhill putt for birdie at the par-four 16th to share the lead once more.
It looked like advantage Strydom when Välimäki fired his tee shot at the 16th way right, over the cart path leaving a blind approach, but he recovered brilliantly, only to miss the birdie attempt from a few feet.
Strydom left himself a tricky up and down when he went through the green with his second to the par-five 18th but he held his nerve, jabbed it into the banking and rolled it stone dead.
That brilliant birdie set the target at 19 under, leaving Välimäki heading up the last needing an eagle to win and a birdie to tie. The Finn was short with his approach and could only manage a par.
Looking back on his touch of magic at the last, Strydom said: "It’s a funny one, I said to Jaris my caddie it’s either going to go up in the air and land in the fringe, but if you hit a little bit behind it, it’s wet.
"I took the safe shot, took a wedge, laid it up and it came out absolutely phenomenally. I didn’t even think it was going to come out that well. It came out and ended up where it was."

Korn Ferry Tour - Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard
Rhein Gibson was already a Korn Ferry Tour winner, but Sunday’s four-stroke victory at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard marked his first win in a 72-hole event. Gibson, a native of Australia, closed with a bogey-free 7-under 64 and capped the lowest round of the week on Country Club de Bogota’s Lagos Course with an eagle at the par-5 18th.
Gibson emerged from a crowded leaderboard which, at one point Sunday afternoon, saw six players tied for the lead at 10-under par. The 37-year-old Gibson separated from the pack and reached 13-under par with a birdie at the par-4 ninth followed by an eagle at the par-5 10th. Another birdie at the par-3 15th and the aforementioned eagle at No. 18 took him to 16-under par for the tournament and put him four strokes clear of runner-up Kevin Dougherty. Gibson Win moves him back into the Top 500 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
“This is pretty vindicating,” said Gibson, whose previous Korn Ferry Tour win came at the rain-shortened 2019 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX. “That (win) was a little truncated. We knew going into the third round it was going to be the final round. To get four rounds done, play awesome on the weekend, bogey-free on Sunday, it just takes the cake. I’m over the moon.”

PGA Tour of Australasia - Vic Open
Michael Hendry made the most of a sizable buffer to win the 2023 Vic Open title by four shots as he finished 21-under par at 13th Beach on Sunday. The New Zealander was rock solid with an even-par final round of 72 to finish ahead of Order of Merit leader David Micheluzzi and claim a drought-breaking victory fresh off battling a shoulder injury.
“It’s been a while. The last time I won on the Aussie Tour was the 2017 New Zealand Open so it was nice to get across the line again,” Hendry said.
“It’s just nice to be feeling fit and proving to myself that I’ve still got it.”
Hendry held a three-shot advantage at the beginning of the day, but that margin quickly blew out to seven as he made a birdie on the opening hole, while his overnight nearest rival Justin Warren made a triple bogey.
That early twist gave the 43-year-old valuable breathing space to play risk-averse golf for the remainder of the day in the very blustery conditions on the Beach Course, but it was not all smooth sailing.

Professional Golf Tour of India -
Delhi’s Sachin Baisoya posted a wire-to-wire win to take home his maiden trophy at the Rs. 1 crore TATA Steel PGTI Players Championship 2023 presented by Tollygunge Club, the opening event of the season.
Sachin’s (64-66-65-69) long-awaited victory came as a result of a steady final round of one-under 69 that took his total to 16-under 264 and helped him prevail with a two-shot margin.
Harsh Gangwar (66-64-67-69), another Delhi-based golfer, who had turned professional last season, finished a career-best tied second as his last round of 69 saw him end the week at a total of 14-under 266.
Sachin Baisoya, the leader since the first round who was two shots ahead going into round four, made early headway on Friday with a birdie from long range on the second. Baisoya, a bronze medalist in the team event for Delhi at last year’s National Games, dropped his first bogey of the day on the ninth where his ball was plugged in the bunker.
With closest rivals Harsh Gangwar and Varun Chopra breathing down his neck, Sachin played some brilliant wedge shots to pick up tap-in birdies on the 13th and 15th to seize the advantage. Baisoya made a couple of crucial pars on the 16th and 17th that all but sealed the title for him. Sachin’s bogey on the last hole was not enough to halt his charge towards the title.
