Masters Tournament (Major) - Masters Tournament

The World Number One drove down Magnolia Lane as a big favourite and after an opening 66 and rounds of 72 and 71 in the tougher windy conditions, he entered the final day with a one-shot advantage.

A slightly shaky start meant there was a four-way tie at the top but a hat-trick of birdies from the eighth steadied the ship and after coming through Amen Corner in level par, Scheffler pulled away to sign for a 68 and finish at 11 under.

Swede Ludvig Åberg carded a 69 to be the nearest challenger at seven under on his Major Championship debut, three shots clear of Ryder Cup team-mate Tommy Fleetwood and American duo Max Homa and Collin Morikawa.

Scheffler arrived in Georgia on the back of finishing first, first and second in his last three starts, with top 20s in each of his four Masters appearances including his win in 2022.

As well as the favourite's tag, he also had the possibility of having to withdraw mid-event with wife Meredith expecting the couple's first child imminently, but he took it all in his stride and produced one of the most dominant Masters performances of recent years.

"It's a very special time for both of us," he said. "I can't put into words what it means to win this tournament again. I really can't put into words what it's going to be like to be a father for the first time. I'm looking forward to getting home and celebrating with Meredith. It's been a long week here without her but I'm just looking forward to getting home.

"I will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child but with that being said, I still love competing. My priorities will change here very soon. My son or daughter will now be the main priority, along with my wife, so golf will now be probably fourth in line. But I still love competing. I don't plan on taking my eye off the ball anytime soon, that's for sure.

"It's been a long week, a grind of a week. The golf course was so challenging, and to be sitting here wearing this jacket again and getting to take it home is extremely special. I will go home, soak in this victory tonight."

Professional Golf Tour of India - Nissan presents Delhi-NCR Open

Gurugram’s Veer Ahlawat continued his fine form with a flawless last round of six-under 66 to march to a one-shot victory at the INR 1 crore Nissan presents Delhi-NCR Open 2024 played at the Noida Golf Course.

Veer (68-67-70-66), fresh from his joint runner-up finish at the Indian Open two weeks back, totalled 17-under 271 to take home his third professional trophy and the winning cheque worth INR 15 lakh. Further extending his lead in the TATA Steel PGTI Ranking as his earnings moved to INR 86,82,267. Twenty-eight-year-old Ahlawat now enjoys a lead of more than INR 38 lakh over nearest rival Manu Gandas.

Manu Gandas (68-69-66-69), a former champion of the Delhi-NCR Open and another Gurugram-based golfer, gave Veer a tough fight on Saturday before signing off with a final round of 69 to finish runner-up at 16-under 272. Manu bagged a cheque worth INR 10 lakh to move up from third to second place in the PGTI’s merit list.

Veer Ahlawat, who was overnight third and two off the lead, had a confidence-boosting start as he made birdie and eagle on the first two holes largely thanks to his accurate tee shots. His eagle-two on the second came after he found the fringe of the par-4 green with his drive and then chipped-in.

The 6-foot 4-inch tall Ahlawat collected three more birdies on the eighth, 10th and 14th. He then had a few more birdie opportunities on the 16th and 17th where he missed putts.

Veer had a stroke of luck on the 18th where his drive bounced out of the hazard and ended up off the fairway but just 50 yards from the flag. He then landed it 15 feet from the flag before making a two-putt for victory even as his closest rival Manu missed an up and down from the bunker to drop a bogey on the 18th.

Veer Ahlawat now holds the best rank he’s held in the in the Official World Golf ranking now ranked inside the Top 400 for the second time in his career.

Big Easy Tour - Altron Big Easy Tour Play OFF

Dylan O’Leary will breathe a sigh of relief following his one-stroke victory over Ricky Hendler in the Altron Big Easy Tour Play-Off held at Irene Country Club.

The 33-year-old Riyal Johannesburg and Kensington player brought a one-stroke lead into the final round of this penultimate event of the season and knew that only a strong performance would get him over the line. Lying 29th on the Order of Merit ahead of this 54-hole event, and with 12 Sunshine Tour cards up for grabs come the end of the season, O’Leary had needed to show up and he did.

He signed for four-under-par 68 on Friday to total 13-under-par 203 and win his first Sunshine Tour-sanctioned tournament.

“This is huge for me, man,” exclaimed a visibly emotional O’Leary after his win. “I’ve had three wins on the Bushveld Tour but this is the big one for me. It’s been such a long season for me and I have had my fair share of personal issues to deal with. So, to win now and in the manner I did, is super special. I was 29th on the Order of Merit before this tournament and this win is going to bump me up. It feels like all the work is now paying off.”
