News for the 10 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments

PGA Tour - RBC Canadian Open

After parting ways with a former caddie at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Robert MacIntyre needed a fill-in for the RBC Canadian Open. A handful of queries went unfulfilled, so MacIntyre dialed up his emergency option – his dad Dougie.

The Scotsman didn’t want to inconvenience his father, who still resides in MacIntyre’s hometown of Oban, Scotland, and works full-time as head greenkeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club – but Dougie MacIntyre knows his son’s game inside and out. He coached him until he was 14 or 15 years old. Dougie MacIntyre hadn’t caddied since DP World Tour Q-School in fall 2017, but this week marked a critical juncture in his son’s first season as a PGA TOUR member – the highly touted MacIntyre, 27, arrived in Canada at No. 75 on the FedExCup standings, right on the bubble to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs (top 70 after the Wyndham Championship in August). The call was made, and the answer was a quick yes – after confirming he could take the week off from work.

That call led to more than they could have imagined. MacIntyre earned his first PGA TOUR title at the RBC Canadian Open, carding a final-round 68 at Hamilton Golf & Country Club for a 16-under 264 total, one stroke clear of Ben Griffin. Not only does he get the proverbial monkey off his back, after a gripping one-stroke defeat to Rory McIlroy at last summer’s Genesis Scottish Open, but MacIntyre cements exempt PGA TOUR status through 2026 and qualifies for this season’s remaining Signature Events. He’s moves inside the Top 40 in the Official World Golf Ranking, meaning he can cancel his Monday tee time at 36-hole U.S. Open Final Qualifying, in which his dad was also planning to carry the bag.

DP World Tour - European Open

Laurie Canter held his nerve down the stretch to claim a maiden DP World Tour title at the European Open after a tense final day in Germany. The Englishman entered day four at Green Eagle Golf Courses in a two-way tie at the top of the leaderboard but had three players for company after playing his first ten holes in one over.

With multiple DP World Tour winners Thriston Lawrence and Bernd Wiesberger making moves on the back nine, the pressure was on Canter but he produced three birdies on his way in to sign for a 72 and finish at 13 under. South African Lawrence and Austria's Wiesberger carded rounds of 68 and 71 respectively to finish two shots behind, one clear of Frenchman Julien Guerrier and Dane Niklas Nørgaard.

After coming through the Qualifying School in 2015, 2016 and 2017, Canter spent the 2019 season on the European Challenge Tour but had his breakthrough in the Covid-affected 2020 campaign. He finished second at the Portugal Masters and the Italian Open to sit in the top 20 on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and has had two more runner-up finishes, including at this season's AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

Despite a top ten at last week's Soudal Open, he was playing with a new set of irons this week and that decision has paid dividends as he moves into the top ten on the Race to Dubai and the summit of the European Swing Rankings.

"This is what I've always wanted to do: to win on the DP World Tour," he said.

Korn Ferry Tour - UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH

Kaito Onishi claimed his first Korn Ferry Tour title at the UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH despite a 72nd-hole bogey at Raleigh Country Club.

The Japanese second-year member fired a final round 4-under 66 in Raleigh, North Carolina, to earn victory in his 30th start on the Korn Ferry Tour. The 25-year-old overcame a four-shot deficit to 54-hole leader Nelson Ledesma, who made a triple bogey at the par-4 11th hole to squander his lead and ended up closing in a 3-over 38 to finish third.

Max McGreevy, who finished T3 last week at the Visit Knoxville Open, finished one shot back of Onishi to claim his best finish of the season and move to fifth in the Korn Ferry Tour Points List.

Alps Tour Golf - Alps de Roquetas de Mar

Brandon Kewalramani, 25, from the United States of America, wins his 1st professional title at the 2024 Alps de Roquetas de Mar. He moved into the lead after yesterday’s round 2, and today, he shot a 1 under-par 69 to conclude the tournament with a three-day total of 10 under-par. This is his 1st professional outright win as he tied for 1st place at last year’s DP World Tour Q-School. In today’s final round, Kewalramani made 2 birdies and 2 bogeys on the front nine holes and then 1 more birdie on the back nine to conclude the day. He was one of 5 players to conclude the final round of the tournament with an under-par score. This is 1st year competing on the Alps Tour, and has been performing well since the beginning of the season.

After his win, Kewalramani was very emotional: “I want to thank the Alps Tour for putting on such a fabulous event and the golf course for such great conditions. It played extremely tough today; the wind was up the entire day. I didn’t look at the scoreboard the entire day, I knew I had a three-shot lead to start the day, so I tried to stay in my own little world out there. I tried to take it one shot at a time, and I must say my putter really saved me a lot today, it was fabulous again. I kept telling myself, especially on the back nine, that it was playing tough, so I wanted to keep making pars, and if someone caught or beat me, that’s just great golf they played. So, on the back nine I was aiming for a lot of centers of the greens, it was so windy I didn’t hit it that great, but my short game was great. That’s the reason I was able to win today. The last two days, the wind was down, so I was able to convert birdies, but today it was converting pars or saving pars.”

Kewalramani added that he: “wants to dedicate this win to my mom; she was again on the bag this week with me. She means the world to me; she sees what I go through and the hard work that I put in. I was thinking about this last night, what this win would mean, and you know, I kept thinking of how much it would mean to win it with my mom on the bag and here with me. I’m so glad I was able to do that.”

Benjamin Kedochim, 29, from France, concluded the 2024 Alps de Roquetas de Mar in 2nd place with a total score of 7 under-par.  He made 6 birdies and 1 bogey for a 2 under-par, 68 in his final round. Kedochim has earned several top 5 finishes in his career but is looking to capture his 1st title on the Alps Tour. He has been playing well since the beginning of the 2024 season and wants to continue to work hard to hopefully earn a trophy in the upcoming events. He was one of 5 players with an under-par score during today’s final round.

Nordic Golf League - Smørum Open

For the first time this season, an amateur won on the Nordic League. On a muggy day with many spectators on the course in Smørum, a local national team player was able to lift the trophy, much to the delight of the many locals.

Danish player Mads Heller, who played on his home course this week, delivered a fantastic final round of 62 strokes (-8). Heller played with an unruffled style and early in the final round looked like a young man on a mission. When he holed his 20-meter approach shot on the 16th hole, he knew things were looking really good.

The eagle on the 16th hole gave the Danish amateur a two-shot lead going into the last two holes. A solid par on the 17th hole followed by an impressive birdie on the 18th secured the victory. This marks the fifth Danish win of the year on the Nordic League and the second win for a player from Smørum. Earlier this year, Heller's clubmate, Jens Kristian Thysted, won, and Smørum has truly dominated the leaderboards in the first half of the season.
