PGA Tour - RBC Heritage

Matt Fitzpatrick defeated defending champion Jordan Spieth on the third playoff hole at the RBC Heritage on Sunday, stuffing his approach in close on the par-4 18th at Harbour Town to secure his first victory since the U.S. Open last June.

Fitzpatrick hit 9-iron to within 1 foot on the famed, closing lighthouse hole to set up the winning birdie on the Pete Dye layout he played as a child on vacation.

Fitzpatrick had to sweat out a couple of prime chances by Spieth on the first two extra holes. Spieth raised his putter in triumph before watching his 12-foot birdie putt catch the right edge and spin out the first time the pair played the 18th. Then Spieth's 9-foot birdie attempt ran out of steam on the right edge at the 17th hole.

There was no doubt about the final hole as Fitzpatrick, from 187 yards out, hit the front of the green and watched the ball settle next to the hole. Spieth's attempt from 26 feet away rolled past and Fitzpatrick tapped in for the victory. “It's hard to describe,” Fitzpatrick said. “It doesn't get better than this.”

Fitzpatrick won $3.6 million from the elevated purse of $20 million in the sixth designated event of the year on the PGA TOUR, topping a field that included seven of the world's top 10 players. Moving back into the Top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking and now his best position held 8th in the World.

Japan Golf Tour - Kansai Open Golf Championship

Japan’s Taiga Semikawa further underlined his status as the next big thing in Japanese golf after he fired a final round four-under-par 67 to win by four shots from compatriot Takahiro Hataji at the Kansai Open Golf Championship on Sunday. It was Semikawa's third title on JGTO but his first as a professional. Before joining the play-for-pay ranks in November last year, the 22-year-old had won the Panasonic Open and Japan Open.

Semikawa was pleased to have made amends after last year's final round meltdown saw him settle for tied-17th after having entered the final day in solo third. "I really wanted to make up for last year's disappointment, and I think I've become more mature since last year," said an emotional Semikawa.

Buoyed by his latest victory, Semikawa has swiftly set his sights on becoming the prize money king on JGTO. "Higa won this tournament and went on to top the prize money rankings, it's my hope that I can do the same too!” he said.

Korn Ferry Tour - Veritex Bank Championship

Spencer Levin only registered for the Veritex Bank Championship’s Monday qualifier at the last second. Levin ultimately signed up, flew to Dallas last Sunday, set up shop with an old college friend, and avoided a 5-for-1 playoff with a birdie on his final hole last Monday. Fast forward to Sunday evening at Texas Rangers Golf Club, where Levin two-putted for birdie on the 72nd hole and capped a bogey-free 8-under 63 in the final round for a one-stroke victory over Brett Drewitt.

“Those are tough to do. You’ve got to show a real low score,” the 38-year-old Levin said of Monday qualifiers. “In the middle of the back nine (Monday), I felt like I was playing really well and I was hoping I’d get in. I didn’t know I was going to win, but I knew I was going to play well this week.”

Levin reached 20-under par for the tournament with eight birdies Sunday, carding four on the front nine and another four on the back nine, tying Rico Hoey for the low round of the day and erasing a six-stroke deficit. Counting the Monday qualifier at nearby Waterchase Golf Club, Levin made 32 birdies, one eagle, and just six bogeys across 90 holes this week.

Levin spent nearly a decade on the PGA TOUR, but entered this week’s Veritex Bank Championship, the seventh event of the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour season, with conditional status. A bogey on the 72nd hole at Final Stage of the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament dropped him to T45. Had Levin made par, this week’s Monday qualifier would not have been necessary, as he would have finished T39 and earned guaranteed starts in the first eight events of the season.

Asian Tour - International Series Vietnam

Kieran Vincent made it a unique brotherly double on the Asian Tour today, when he claimed the International Series Vietnam at KN Golf Links – just 10 months after his brother Scott won the International Series England.

The Zimbabwean, in just his second year as a professional, holed a decisive 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to beat Anirban Lahiri from India and Australian Kevin Yuan by one stroke.

Vincent shot a six-under-par 66, for a four-round aggregate of 19 under, while Lahiri carded a 64 and Yuan, who missed a similar length birdie putt on the last to force a sudden-death play-off, a 68.

Japan’s Takumi Kanaya had started the day with a three-shot advantage but, unlike the International Series Oman in February where he triumphed after also holding the third-round lead, he struggled on the back nine and closed with a 73 to tie for fourth, on 16 under, with American Michael Maguire (66), Korea’s Taehee Lee (67) and Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai (67), Pawin Ingkhapradit (68) and Jazz Janewattananond (70).

“It is surreal right now,” said the 25-year-old Vincent, who won US$360,000.

“I think there are so many people I have to thank at this stage that have put so much time and effort into me that they deserve it more than myself.

“I feel like I am a lead singer in a band of people that have done so much for me. I am very appreciative. I don’t think it is going to sink in for a while.”

Nordic Golf League - GEBWELL Championship

Swedish Charlie Lindth was able to lift a trophy for the first time on the ECCO Tour as he cruised for victory at the second tournament on Polish grounds, the GEBWELL Championship.

Charlie Lindh is no stranger to playing with the victory on the ECCO Tour, but the Swede had not yet managed to finish on top – until today. It could also indicate that there were some nerves from the morning when Charlie, who struck out with some kind of lead, had to note a bogey on the 2nd hole. But the Swede quickly shook his nerves and the bogey was followed by four birdies on the next six holes. From there, it looked like the Swede was turning on the auto pair pilot, and with 10 pairs on the remaining 10 holes, Charlie Lindh finally stood at the top of the podium.

Axel Boasson ( -11 ) thus ended in second place followed by Matias Honkala, Marcus Garfield Hansen and Alexander George Frances, all three of whom finished in third place in -10 for the tournament. The best rounds of the day were by Rasmus Holmberg and Jesper Asp Hagborg, who both went rounds in 67 ( -5 ) strokes.

With the win, Charlie Lindt crawls back to the top of the Road to Europe rankings, followed by compatriot Christofter Blomstrand and with Finnish Matias Honkala in third place. We have to go down to eighth place to find the best Dane, Søren Broholt Lind.

Sunshine Tour - Stella Artois Players Championship

When it comes to a Players Championship, there could not have been a more popular winner of the Stella Artois Players Championship amongst all his peers than Kyle Barker. The man with the biggest smile on the Sunshine Tour had even more reason to do so as Barker claimed his maiden victory on the circuit at Dainfern Country Club on Sunday.

A week of incredible scoring saw Barker sign off with a 61 to win on 30 under par. He finished six shots clear of second-placed Peter Karmis, who closed with a 64, and Casey Jarvis, who signed for a final round of 68.

Karmis and Jarvis sharing second place alongside each other was another special moment as they also share the lowest round in Sunshine Tour history of 59. Karmis shot his 59 in 2009 and Jarvis equaled that this week in the third round of this tournament. But the biggest smile and applause belonged to the ever-popular Barker.

“Thank you so much guys. Honestly, this feels like a dream right now. To all the supporters out there and everyone that came, it was just amazing. Thank you so much,” said Barker.

Professional Golf Tour of India - Tata Steel PGTI Players Championship presented by Chandigarh Golf Club

Its turning out to be one memorable April for young Karan Pratap Singh. The 22-year-old from Faridabad prevailed in a tight finish to claim his maiden victory at the Rs. 1 crore TATA Steel PGTI Players Championship 2023 presented by Chandigarh Golf Club on Saturday. The in-form Karan Pratap’s win followed his career-best runner-up finish in Noida last week where he had lost in a playoff.

Karan (70-70-68-70), lying two shots off the lead in second place at the start of the day, posted a resolute two-under 70 on day four to tally 10-under 278 for the week that kept his nearest rivals at bay and helped him triumph by one shot.

Om Prakash Chouhan (72-70-69-68) of Mhow and Arjun Sharma (71-68-70-70) of Greater Noida were the joint runners-up at matching totals of nine-under 279.

Karan Pratap Singh had an action-packed front-nine where he made four birdies and three bogeys. Singh’s 30-feet birdie conversion on the third and a perfect 9-Iron tee shot on the eighth where he narrowly missed a hole-in-one were his standout moments on the front-nine.

Karan said, “It was great to finally get the job done especially after coming so close and losing out in the playoff last week. The turning point for me today was the birdie on the eighth hole where I nearly made a hole-in-one. There was a two-shot swing in my favour on the eighth as I sank a birdie there while Jamal dropped a bogey. That helped me tie Jamal for the lead.

Nordic Golf League - Sand Valley Polish Masters - by Upgame

26-year-old Norwegian Andreas Halvorsen has seen a little of each in the world of golf. He has lived in the United States for several years and tried on PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica without making the big breakthrough.

This season he has taken the chance in Europe and he participated in all four tournaments in Spain earlier this year. On that occasion he managed all four cuts, had a single split eighth place and three other top-30 rankings.

But this week, at Sand Valley Polish Masters by Upgame, it all clicked for the Norwegian. He went both the first two rounds in 67 strokes, and it reached a split lead with Swedish Oliver Gillberg before the last 18 holes. Halvorsen quickly put on his driver's shirt as he wore the first hole, and he followed up with another on hole 5. He was two under after the first nine holes, and on the last nine he added two more birdies on holes 13 and 14, and then he led with comfortable four strokes. The victory ended in three strokes when Halvorsen made pairs on the remaining four holes.

Second place Swedish Christofer Blomstrand took care of. He went to the final round in four strokes under pairs and played four seats on the leaderboard. Three strokes after the winning Norwegian. Icelandic Axel Boasson went the best score of the finals round in five strokes under the course pair. He played himself up in a third place that way.

ProGolf Tour - Abierto De Aguascalientes

The final day of the EINBAY Red Sea Open unfolded into a battle of wits between Frenchmen Andoni Etchenique and Tom Santa. In the penultimate group, Etchenique got off to a good start and opened his round with a birdie. Fellow countryman Santa, one of the leaders after day two, had a little more trouble on the first holes and recorded a bogey on hole four. At that point, the French duo were tied. "I know him pretty well," Etchenique said of his Tour colleague. "We didn't play in the same group, so it was a bit easier."

Etchenique was thus able to focus completely on his own game - but at the same time he knew that he was playing against Santa for the title. At the latest after further birdies on the 13th and 14th holes, the 24-year-old felt the pressure. Which didn't bother him - on the contrary. Already last year, together with a mental coach, he had noticed how the pressure can be a help to him. "I had big problems at the beginning of last season. Then I got a mental coach and that helped me a lot." The new approach bore immediate fruit. Etchenique finished the 2022 season with three top-20 results in a row.

"I used to just let my rounds go," Etchenique says about the valuable insights. "Only after making mistakes I then started to play better. Now I try to always immediately feel like I'm under pressure and have to deliver." Adding to the new mental strength is a return to the old swing coach the man from Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle has been working with again since the winter. After two tournament victories in France, the new season started as well as the last one had ended. Before the EINBAY Red Sea Open, he had finished all three events in the top 20.

Gira de Golf Professional Mexicana - EINBAY Red Sea Open

In just his second season as a paid golfer, the Mexican Luis Gerardo Garza obtained his first professional victory by winning the Aguascalientes Open tournament that distributed a purse of one million 600 thousand pesos.

He warmed up the putt. With a score of 202 shots, 14 under par, Luis Gerardo Garza beat Guatemalan José Toledo by one stroke to become champion of the seventh date of the 2022-23 season of the Mexican Professional Golf Tour (GGPM), endorsed by the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and corresponding to the DevSeries of the PGA Tour Latin America.

“I really don't know what to say, it's a very special moment for me,” said 25-year-old Luis Gerardo Garza. "I want to thank my family, without them I would not be here, I hope this is the first of many triumphs in my career as a professional."

On hole 16, par 3 at Club Campestre de Aguascalientes, Garza rescued a par with a birdie flavor when he holed a putt of just over two meters which gave him enough confidence to close his victory. “I was very patient, I was breathing all day which helped me a lot in important moments, besides that I was excellent with the putt”, added Luis Gerardo Garza, creditor to a check for 265 thousand pesos.
