Rahm moves closer to the World Number One Spot as he moves from 4th to 3rd in the Official World Golf Ranking. Rahm carded a four-round total of 27 under at The American Express for a one-stroke victory over Tour rookie Davis Thompson, his fourth win in six official starts worldwide. With his ninth career PGA TOUR title, he moves atop the FedEx Cup standings and continues one of the more impressive hot streaks in recent memory at the game’s highest level.
Two weeks ago, Rahm rallied from six strokes back in the final seven holes to edge Collin Morikawa at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. This week, Rahm shared the 54-hole lead with Thompson at 23 under, and a steady Sunday sufficed. The ultimate edge came at the par-5 16th hole. Rahm’s second shot flirted with a cavernous bunker on the Stadium Course’s iconic San Andreas hole before settling in the fairway, 33 yards from the hole. He pitched to 9 feet and drained the putt, which caught the lip and spun nearly all the way around before dropping.
Rahm felt a comfort level Sunday in the California desert, cultivated through a work ethic that he describes as “obsessive.” It translated to a trophy.
“I think today was about as comfortable as I’ve been in a long time on the golf course, tee to green,” Rahm said Sunday evening. “Every time I felt like this in the past, I’ve ended up going on to win, just because it takes a lot of pressure off a lot of parts of my game, knowing that basically, I'm going to hit the shot that I'm envisioning. And that's a really unique zone to put yourself in.
“That doesn't happen as often as I wish. I wish I could be like that every single time, that I know I'm going to stripe it into the middle of the fairway and hit the shot at the pin. But it doesn't always happen. So I'm glad I enjoyed a day like that today.”
Victories are nice when they come and Rahm intends to savour this one but he knows that for those who wish to remain among the game’s elite, there’s no time for complacency. The search for the extra edge is eternal.

DP World Tour - Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
Victor Perez wins maiden Rolex Series title after late drama in Abu Dhabi moving back into the Top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Victor Perez produced late fireworks in the final round of the 2023 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to overcome a high-class chasing pack and win his Rolex Series title in dramatic fashion.
The Frenchman held a narrow one-shot lead in the closing stages on Sunday afternoon before holing out from a bunker at the 17th for a birdie to stretch his advantage to two. Even though he ran into trouble at the 18th, a bogey there was enough to secure a one-shot win as he closed with a 66 to finish the tournament on 18 under par.
Min Woo Lee needed an eagle at the last to force a playoff and came agonisingly close to getting it as his approach finished two feet from the cup. The Australian finished in a tie for second alongside Sebastian Söderberg on 17 under, while 51-year-old Pádraig Harrington was another shot back in fourth place on a record-breaking day at Yas Links Abu Dhabi.

Korn Ferry Tour - The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay
Chandler Phillips cards four back-nine birdies to win The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay. Chandler's win moves him to the best position he’s held in the Official World Golf Ranking now 504th.
Chandler Phillips lived with teammate and future PGA Tour winner Cameron Champ at Texas A&M University. He represented the United States in international competitions alongside the likes of Sam Burns and Collin Morikawa. And he even defeated Keita Nakajima, formerly the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, in match play at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup. As a professional, though, Phillips had little to show for his collegiate accolades. Until Wednesday evening in The Bahamas.
Phillips birdied four of the first six holes of the back nine at Sandals Emerald Bay Golf Club and held on for a two-stroke victory at the Korn Ferry Tour’s 2023 season-opening event, The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic. A native of Huntsville, Texas, Phillips carded a 4-under 68 Wednesday, erasing the three-stroke lead Shad Tuten carried into the final round.
“It will probably sink in after my first beer,” Phillips said of the victory. “I kept doing what I was doing and didn’t really try to force anything. I made a bad bogey on No. 17. Honestly, I hadn’t seen the scoreboard. I didn’t look at it. I didn’t know where I was, but I was really thinking that ‘Here we go again … just screwed myself again.’ But other than that, I just played really solid and didn’t do anything really crazy or anything. Kept the ball in play.”
While Phillips’ consistent scoring eventually won out (he carded two 3-under 69s and two 4-under 68s), playing the same ball from start to finish in all four rounds set him apart from a crowded top 10, as he was one of only two players in the top 10 who went without a double bogey or worse this week.
