News for the 11 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments
PGA Tour - RBC Canadian Open
Nick Taylor became the first Canadian in 69 years to win his national open, holing a 72-foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole to beat Tommy Fleetwood in the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday.
Taylor tossed his putter into the air and jumped into the arms of his caddie after the longest made putt of his PGA TOUR career, and fellow Canadian players Mike Weir, Corey Conners and Adam Hadwin were among those who ran out to the green to congratulate him.
“I'm speechless. This is for all the guys that are here. This is for my family at home," Taylor said with tears in his eyes. “This is the most incredible feeling.”
The last player from Canada to win their national open was Pat Fletcher in 1954 at Point Grey in Vancouver. Fletcher was born in England; Carl Keffer had been the only Canadian-born champion, winning in 1909 and 1914.
With galleries cheering his every move and even serenading him with “O Canada” on one tee box, Taylor curled in an 11-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to finish at 17-under 271 at Oakdale, walking backward with his fist raised as the ball dropped into the cup. He shot a 6-under 66 on Sunday.
Fleetwood needed a birdie on the reachable par 5 to win in regulation, but he missed his tee shot right, laid up into an awkward lie in the right rough and two-putted for par to force the playoff in rainy conditions.
The players traded birdies on their first-time playing No. 18 in the playoff. They both parred 18 and the par-3 ninth before heading back to 18.
Taylor reached the green in two while Fleetwood laid up after his drive found a fairway bunker. Fleetwood gave himself an opportunity for birdie but didn't need to putt after Taylor's uphill eagle putt from the front of the green hit the flagstick and dropped.
The 35-year-old Taylor, who was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in Abbotsford, British Columbia, won for the third time on the PGA TOUR. He shot 75 in Thursday's opening round but rallied with a 67 on Friday to make the cut, then shot 63 on Saturday to begin the final round three shots behind leader C.T. Pan.

DP World Tour - Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed
Dale Whitnell held his nerve to claim his first DP World Tour win after a dramatic final day of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed. The Englishman set the tone for his week at Ullna Golf and Country Club with a closing 96-yard hole-out eagle on day one and carried that momentum into a second-round 61 that handed him a six-shot lead at the halfway stage.
That advantage was cut to two with two to play as American Sean Crocker put the pressure on with a closing 65 but Whitnell birdied the 17th to give himself some breathing room and signed for a 70 and a three-shot win at 21 under.
Anne van Dam was the leading women's player at 15 under after a 69, alongside Yannik Paul who carded a closing 72.
But the headlines belonged to Whitnell, who completed his long journey to the winner's circle 14 years after turning professional.
The 34-year-old played in the Walker Cup alongside Tommy Fleetwood in 2009 but had a spell as a courier as he played on satellite tours before winning the KPMG Trophy in his rookie season on the European Challenge Tour ten years later. That was the same year he earned his DP World Tour card at the Qualifying School and now, with three top tens already in 2023, he is a winner in his 106th start and moves into the top 20 on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex.
The win is also a second of the season for caddie Garry Melia, who is on Whitnell's bag for this week only and had the same deal when he helped another first-time English winner Matthew Baldwin to victory at the SDC Championship.
"It's awesome," said a clearly emotional Whitnell. "It tested me out there. Gaz was great.
"It's been a long road for me, I've got so many people to thank: my fiancée Angie, my little dog, Craig my coach who I didn't know flew out today, my mum and dad, Callaway, Travis Mathew, all my friends and family.
"It's been a long time coming, I'm ecstatic. It means everything to me, it's what I get up every day for. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. I've dreamt of this for a long time."

Japan Golf Tour - ASO IIZUKA Challenged Golf Tournament
Third time the charm for Keita Nakajima, after settling for runner-up in his last two starts, Nakajima finally went one better as he was crowned the winner of the ASO Iizuka Challenged Golf Tournament after a dramatic finale on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Nakajima beat Takumi Kanaya, 25, with a birdie on the second playoff hole after overcoming a three-shot deficit at the start of the final round.
Nakajima closed with a seven-under-par 65 at the Aso Iizuka Golf Club to match Kanaya at 29-under-par 259. Kanaya, who led the first three rounds, finished with a bogey-free 68.
Nakajima was over the moon after bagging the second JGTO title of his career, but his first as a professional after joining the play-for-play ranks last year. He was an amateur when he secured his maiden Tour win at the 2021 Panasonic Open.
"I feel so happy. Winning in the playoff against Kanaya-san after a fiercely-battled final day made the victory even sweeter. It was a feeling that can't be expressed in words, " said Nakajima, who came in runner-up at the Mizuno Open before finishing joint second again at last week's BMW JGT Championship Mori Building Cup.
"No, it's no different (than winning as an amateur). The outcome of the game doesn't change, and I believe that the person who plays good golf will win, so it doesn't change.
"After turning professional, I didn't have a good performance for a while, and I saw players of my generation had won it before me.
"But I didn't feel anxious at that time, and I believed that if I continued with my own golf, I could win. I was able to do it with the support and understanding from my family, trainers, coaches, and support staff."

Korn Ferry Tour - BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX
Just 12 days ago, Adrien Dumont de Chassart concluded a decorated collegiate career at the University of Illinois. Fast forward (or simply skip ahead one scene) to Sunday’s final round of the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX, and Dumont de Chassart won his professional debut, immediately putting himself in contention for one of the 30 PGA TOUR cards awarded via the Korn Ferry Tour.
The last player to win their debut start on the Korn Ferry Tour was Englishman Tom Lewis at the 2019 Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance, and the last player to accomplish the feat prior to Lewis was 19-year-old Sungjae Im, who won the 2018 The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay and led the money list for the entire season.
Overall, Dumont de Chassart is the 18th player in history to win his first Korn Ferry Tour start. Dumont de Chassart, a 23-year-old Belgian, defeated 44-year-old Josh Teater with an up-and-down par save from just off the green of Thornblade Club’s par-4 18th on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. To force a playoff with Teater, who held outright 36- and 54-hole leads, Dumont de Chassart carded a final-round 6-under
65 (to go with rounds of 66, 67, 66 earlier in the week) with a star-making birdie-birdie-birdie-eagle stretch on the back nine.
Playing in the penultimate group, Dumont de Chassart began the final round two strokes behind Teater. By the time Dumont de Chassart reached the par-4 13th, he stood 2-under par for the day and 17-under par for the tournament, four strokes behind Teater.
Three consecutive birdies at the 13th, 14th, and 15th brought Dumont de Chassart within one stroke of the lead. From the fairway of the par-5 16th, The young Belgian opened the door for a massive scoring swing as he stuffed a long iron inside 15 feet, setting up the seventh and final eagle of the week at No. 16.
Dumont de Chassart gave a stroke back after a three-putt bogey on the 72nd hole and fell into a tie with Teater, who himself missed a quality look at birdie and the win roughly 20 minutes later. The rookie and the veteran headed back to the 18th tee together for the 2023 season’s seventh sudden-death playoff.
“I was pretty excited,” Dumont de Chassart said of the playoff. “I was like, ‘I’m here in a playoff, my first start, (I) should just be happy to compete right now. I was very comfortable with my driver, which I wasn’t 30 minutes before, and I just hit a great driver.”
A 9-iron came up just short of the back right hole location, leaving Dumont de Chassart with a short chip up a gentle slope. Teater hit the center of the green and lagged a lengthy putt within 10 feet of the hole, then watched as Dumont de Chassart’s chip rolled a foot past the hole for what turned into a winning tap-in par. Teater’s playoff-extending par putt missed off the right edge.

Challenge Tour - Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz
Sam Hutsby came out on top in a six-man play-off to secure his first European Challenge Tour title for over eight years at the Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz. The Englishman carded a one under par final round of 71 to move to a 15 under total alongside Italian Filippo Celli, Denmark’s Nicolai Kristensen, Swede Jesper Svensson and Frenchmen Clément Berardo and Julien Sale at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri.
A dramatic play-off unfolded as Celli, Berardo and Kristensen fell at the first hurdle before Hutsby made par at the third extra hole to defeat Sale, who could only manage a bogey.
Hutsby, who won the 2014 Kazakhstan Open, was delighted to secure his second Challenge Tour title in Cádiz and admitted to feeling confident ahead of the extra holes having prevailed in a six-man play-off at the Second Stage of Qualifying School last year.
“I’m so emotional right now,” he said. “2014 was my last win on the Challenge Tour and most of the young guys coming through are so fearless. I got off to the worst possible start with a double-bogey on the first but I managed to get my head back down and use my experience to bounce back.
“I had to keep reminding myself that I was still in the tournament. When it went to a play-off I was quietly confident because I’ve won about 15 play-offs in my career. I’ve always been very confident in those situations, and I actually won a six-man play-off at the Second Stage of Qualifying School last year.
“I’ve got some amazing memories in the game, but this is right up there. We all hit really good shots in the play-off and I made a great putt. I’ve got a great record in Spain so I think I will have to start looking with my girlfriend at places to live over here.
“I hope to take a lot of confidence from this win. I’ve always said that the standard on the Challenge Tour is incredible and that is proved by the amount of guys that go on to do so well on the DP World Tour. It’s so easy to get down in this game and my season hasn’t been going the way I would have liked until now.”

Nordic Golf League - Thomas Bjørn Samsø Classic - by Samsø Festival
It looked like cruise control for Icelandic Axel Boasson when he reached 19 under in the final round of the day with an eagle on the short par 5 10th. With eight holes to go, he led with three strokes to Danish Sebastian Wiis, who had come a little slower from the start. Boasson finished 2 over for the last 8 holes finishing his final round with a 5 under (67) finishing the tournament at 17 under par.
It was a separation race at the top. It soon became clear that the winner had to be found between Boasson and Wiis. Before the last hole, it was just right between Wiis and Boasson. Wiis chose driver from tee but struck in the left. He lay so bad that he could only chip out in the fairway, but from there he turned in to half a meter. When Boasson also got par, a replay was a reality. First replay hole they shared in pars. Wiis had a putt for victory, but millimeters separated him from victory.
In return, it came on the second replay hole. Boasson struck in bunker with his second stroke, and Wiis had again chosen driver from tee. He then chipped it close for a given birdie, and he probably rolled it in after Boasson fumbled with his bunker shot.
It is Sebastian Wiis ’ first victory on the ECCO Tour. In February, he lost in replay in Spain. With the victory, Wiis moves up to seventh on Road to Europe, where he is now the best placed Dane. Right in the heels he has Alexander Frances and Søren Lind.

Alps Tour Golf - Croara Alps Open
Luca Cianchetti becomes the inaugural winner of this stop as this is the first time that Croara Country Club hosted an Alps Tour event. Luca Cianchetti from Italy captures another Alps Tour trophy at the 2023 Croara Alps Open with a three-day score of 17 under-par. He shot 6 birdies and 1 bogey during today’s final round for a 5 under-par, 66. He is 27 years old and represents Modena Golf & Country Club. Before today’s win, his most recent triumph occurred at the 2021 Red Sea Little Venice Open.
After his win, he was ecstatic, “I’m very happy to have won here in Croara, I won a pro-am here a few years ago and played numerous junior events and I feel very comfortable on the course. More importantly, being from Modena which is in the same Region as Croara Country Club, I’m very satisfied to have won at home.”
He went on to add that, “I’m very pleased that the old Luca is starting to come back, but I’m more focused on working on finding the calmness I used to have while on the golf course instead of only focusing on my technique.” Cianchetti plans on “playing all of the Alps Tour event as obviously my ultimate goal is to qualifying for the Challenge Tour by earning one of the five coveted cards. I would also like to congratulate my fellow Italian Andrea Romano on an amazing final round and my pairing as it was a great battle.”
