News for the 10 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments

DP World Tour – Omega European Masters

Ludvig Aberg claimed a maiden victory in only his second DP World Tour event as a professional courtesy of a stunning finish at the Omega European Masters. The former World Amateur Number One confirmed his status as one of golf's rising stars with a closing 64 at Crans-sur-Sierre to deny Matt Fitzpatrick a hat-trick of titles in the Swiss mountains. This win moves Aberg into the Top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time in his career now ranked 90th.

Sweden's Aberg birdied four of his last five holes to finish on 19 under for the week, two ahead of compatriot Alexander Björk, with long-time leader Fitzpatrick eventually finishing in a tie for third with Scotland's Connor Syme after a bogey at the 18th.

The 29-year-old former U.S. Open Championship winner could at least console himself with a place on Luke Donald's Ryder Cup team after taking the last automatic spot via the World Points list, with Scotland's Robert MacIntyre guaranteeing a debut in Rome by claiming the last remaining European Points list place.

Japan Golf Tour – Fujisankei Classic

Takumi Kanaya won his second JGTO title in the space of three months after carding a three-under-par final round at the Fujisankei Classic. The 25-year-old Kanaya, who had just won the BMW JGT Championship Mori Building Cup in June, triumphed again with a comfortable four-shot victory after taking a one-shot lead into the final day.

Kanaya mixed four birdies with a lone bogey at the Fujizakura Country Club, securing the fifth JGTO title of his career and wrapping up the week at eight-under 272. He had also captured the International Series Oman in February, marking his third victory of the year.

Kanaya expressed pleasure that his consistent top-10 finishes in the past three tournaments finally culminated in a victory."It was windy today on this difficult course, and I was really tired. This win has given me another boost of confidence," said Kanaya, whose win today helped him reclaim the money list top spot from Keita Nakajima.

"Thank you very much to everyone in the gallery for today. The men's golf is going to be even more exciting with so many young players coming out. We need all the support we can get from the fans. I'm aiming for the top prize this year,'' he vowed.

KPGA Korean Tour – LX Championship

Bio Kim claims another victory at the KPGA LX Championship in a playoff against Junggon Hwang. Both players were tied with a total score of 21 under par. However, it was Junggon Hwang who had the better score on the last day shooting an impressive 10 under par final round. Unfortunately for Junggon it wasn’t enough to win outright as Bio Kim had produced another sub 70 round, shooting a 67, 5 under par to force a play off to decide the winner.

The play off was to be decided by playing the 18th hole par 5, both players made par on the first play off hole but it was Bio Kim who came out as the victor making another par the 2nd time around which was enough to beat Junggon Hwang’s bogey.

PGA Tour Canada – CRMC Championship presented by Gertens

Despite the doubts that tried to creep into his brain after three consecutive missed cuts and notwithstanding the persistent neck pain that bothered him all week, Yi Cao is finally a PGA TOUR Canada champion.

Cao began the final round of the CRMC Championship presented by Gertens with a five-shot lead and never faltered. He turned in a 5-under 65 and finished at 22-under 258 at Cragun’s Dutch Legacy Championship Course, giving him an eight-stroke win, the largest margin of victory on PGA TOUR Canada this season.

“I can finally call myself the best player of the week,” Cao said. “I might not be the lowest of the day, but I’m the lowest of the whole week. I’m really proud of myself. Even though I wasn’t feeling great, I just kept hanging in there and making some putts and making sure I put myself in the right position.”

Cao, of Delta, British Columbia, did nothing to put his lead in danger. After making three birdies on the front nine, Cao played a steady round and never allowed the lead to get closer than four shots. He birdied two of the final three holes to finish strong and claim his first PGA TOUR Canada victory in 48 starts.

“There’s a lot of things going in my head the last couple weeks, so many doubts,” Cao said. “I just love golf. I don’t want to do anything else except play golf. I know I can play. I know I can compete.”

Sunshine Tour – Gary & Vivienne Player Challenge

Gerhard Pepler made his talent and mental strength public on Friday as he came from four strokes behind to claim a thrilling victory in the Gary & Vivienne Player Challenge at the White River Country Club and earn his maiden win on the Sunshine Tour.

The 23-year-old rookie fired his third consecutive round of 66 to finish on 15-under-par for the R2 million event, two shots clear of James Hart du Preez and Hennie Otto.

“It’s a dream come true to win in my rookie season, but it feels unreal as well, like I’m going to wake up. Of course now I can look forward to playing at the Gary & Vivienne Player Invitational at The Lost City as well. For any South African golfer growing up, it’s always about Mr Player and it’s amazing what he has done for our golf, he’s the reason this all happens,” Pepler said.

The tournament’s most consistent golfer won out in the end, but he had to weather a rollercoaster back nine.

Pepler sealed victory in spectacular fashion with an eagle-three on the 16th hole and then a chip-in for birdie on the par-three 17th. That took him to 16-under and he could even afford a bogey on the par-four closing hole.

Asian Development Tour – BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang

Australia’s Aaron Wilkin shot a scintillating bogey-free round to win the BRG Open Golf Championship in Vietnam today, posting the lowest score of the day to smash a seven shot deficit and seize victory.

Overnight leader Deyen Lawson was unable to capitalise on his advantage in the US$100,000 Asian Development Tour event and posted a one-over-par 73 to finish in solo second, one shot behind Wilkin on 207.Saptak Talwar (68) of India and Naoki Sekito (74) of Japan were three shots further back in third place on 210.

Starting in the third from last group, Wilkin knew he was a long way back from the leaders but trusted his game and hoped the last few holes on the Nicklaus Course at Da Nang Golf Resort would play into his hands.

“I’m a little bit nervous at the moment,” he said after posting his score and waiting for the remaining golfers to complete their rounds. It was bit tricky, I haven’t seen the scores yet but there were a few tough pins and the wind was swirling there a little bit, so yeah I’ll take seven under. I think I was seven back after yesterday. I knew I had to go low, but I didn’t think it was out of my reach. I was hoping it would be a tough finish which would maybe bring a few of them back.

ProGolf Tour – FaberExposize Gelpenberg Open

Timo Vahlenkamp impressively recovers from a bogey series and secures his second title on the Pro Golf Tour with a 70 on the final day of the FaberExposize Gelpenberg Open 2023. Andoni Etchenique, who has already been promoted to the Challenge Tour after last week's victory at the Staan Open, is delighted to be the winner of the Dutch Swing special classification and to have a starting place in the elite field of the KLM Open 2024.

The race for the €5,000 prize at the FaberExposize Gelpenberg Open 2023 was not decided until the last few holes. Timo Vahlenkamp had started the final round as the leader and opened the hunt for the title with a birdie. However, the game of the 25-year-old from Berlin's GC Stolper Heide cooled off somewhat as the round progressed. After three bogeys in a row on holes eleven to 13, the Westphalian had to watch Owen Edwards (Wales), who managed a fabulous 64 on Saturday, pass him by.
