PGA Tour - The Genesis Invitational

Ludvig Åberg exorcised his Torrey Pines demons with a stunning victory at The Genesis Invitational, held at the course due to wildfires in Los Angeles.  Just weeks after a stomach ailment derailed his 36-hole lead at the same venue, Åberg stormed back from a three-shot deficit with a final-round 66, capped by a clutch birdie on the 18th, to edge out Maverick McNealy by one stroke.

Åberg's late surge included three consecutive birdies, showcasing the resilience that propelled him to his second PGA TOUR title.  “This Sunday is a lot more fun than the last one we had,” Åberg remarked to his caddie, referencing his previous experience at Torrey Pines.  The win marks a significant turnaround for the Swede, who now rises to No. 4 in the world rankings.

McNealy, who also won his first TOUR event three months ago, carded a 64 and looked poised for victory after a hot start. However, a difficult lie on the 17th and a missed birdie opportunity on the 18th opened the door for Åberg.

The tournament was played under the shadow of Tiger Woods' withdrawal following the death of his mother, Kultida. Players honored her by wearing red buttons with a Thai symbol of love.  Woods, who met Åberg at a recent TGL event, presented him with the trophy.

Scottie Scheffler, who shot a 76 on Saturday, rebounded with a 66 to finish tied for third, while Patrick Rodgers and Denny McCarthy faded down the stretch after holding leads earlier in the final round.

Sunshine Tour & HotelPlanner Tour - NTT DATA Pro Am

Wilco Nienaber cruised to a commanding seven-stroke victory at the NTT DATA Pro Am at Fancourt Golf Estate, securing his second title at the event.  The South African golfer led from start to finish, carding a final round of 70 (-2) for a 27-under total.  Nienaber's impressive performance earned him his first win since 2021 at the same tournament, joining an elite group of two-time champions.

Despite holding a significant lead, Nienaber admitted to feeling the pressure, especially with fellow South African Jacques Blaauw making a charge.  He managed to maintain his composure, playing conservatively and securing the win with a comfortable margin.  This victory comes after Nienaber earned his DP World Tour card at Qualifying School last year, and he now heads into the Magical Kenya Open with boosted confidence.

Blaauw finished in third place alongside Sam Jones of New Zealand and Sweden's Per Längfors.  Nienaber's win propels him to second in the Road to Mallorca Rankings, trailing only Daniel van Tonder. The Road to Mallorca now takes a month-long break before resuming in India next March.
