News for the 5 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments

PGA Tour - FedEx St. Jude Championship

Glover never gave up and now he’s playing arguably the greatest golf of his career. Yes, he won a major championship more than a decade ago, but he now has more victories in his 40s (3) than his 20s (2). It’s a testament to his longevity and also a surprising statistic, considering his standout career at Clemson.

He was a highly-touted prospect when he arrived on the PGA TOUR at age 24. Twenty years later, he’s in the midst of the first multiple-win season of his career. He has won back-to-back PGA TOUR events and finished sixth or better in five of his past six starts.

“A lesser man would have quit a long time ago,” said his college coach, Larry Penley. “He made enough money. He had a good career. He didn’t have to put himself through all that crap, but he found a way.”

Glover is the second-oldest player in this year’s FedExCup Playoffs, surpassed in age only by Matt Kuchar, but Sunday he beat several of the game’s biggest stars to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He outlasted Patrick Cantlay, winner of the 2021 FedExCup and three of the previous five Playoffs events, in a sudden-death playoff. Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood shared third place, one stroke back, with Jordan Spieth and Max Homa also among the challengers.

Outside the top 100 in the FedExCup two weeks ago, Glover will arrive at the BMW Championship ranked fourth in the standings. He also moved to 30th in the Official World Golf Ranking, his highest ranking since 2010.

“Maybe I'm really stubborn,” he said. “You know, (the last) 10 years up until this run, I've underachieved and knew it. It was all because of putting. It was just believing in myself, and (being) hard-headed and stubborn enough to not give up. It took something drastic to figure it out, but it's worked.”

Korn Ferry Tour - Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna

Alejandro Tosti not only earned his first Korn Ferry Tour victory Sunday, the 27-year-old rookie from Rosario, Argentina also secured his first PGA TOUR card by virtue of his three-stroke win at the Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna. Tosti became the fifth player declared #TOURBound, meaning he is assured of a place in the top 30 on the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour Points List at season’s end, thus earning PGA TOUR membership for 2024.

With the threat of afternoon storms looming, final-round tee times were moved up. The rain held off, but the wind whipped throughout the day and Tosti navigated the conditions better than anyone in the field. Tosti carded a bogey-free 9-under 62, which tied the 18-hole tournament course record at The Club at Indian Creek and was four strokes lower than the next-best score posted Sunday.

“I still think I’m dreaming,” Tosti said. “It’s been an amazing day. When I saw it was blowing a little harder this morning, I was very happy because I love playing in the wind, and it showed today. I had a great start and finished up even better.

“The best golf in the world is played in the United States,” Tosti continued. “I had a couple chances to play on the PGA TOUR this year and I did good, but in Colorado I was leading going into the last round and I wasn’t able to close it out. It was not the time a couple weeks ago. But it all fell in place. It was a matter of time.”

Sunshine Tour - Vodacom Origins of Golf

Jacques Kruyswijk claimed his third victory on the Sunshine Tour with a one-stroke triumph in the Vodacom Origins of Golf at Zebula Country Club on Sunday.

Kruyswijk laid the foundation for his win with a final round that saw him at six-under-par through the first 15 holes. It allowed him a bogey at the last as he signed for a 67 and victor yon 13 under par. Heinrich Bruiners took second place on 12 under as he also closed with a bogey for a 70.

The Centurion-based Kruyswijk began the final round two shots behind Bruiners, but three birdies in his first six holes on Sunday saw him overtake the Fancourt golfer and sit handily just one stroke behind his playing partner and new leader Pieter Moolman, who also went out with three birdies in his opening six holes.

Further birdies on the 11th, 13th and 15th holes drew Kruyswijk level at the top, and he had the sole lead in the clubhouse after Moolman was undone by a triple-bogey seven at the 16th hole.

Challenge Tour - Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by the R&A

Sam Bairstow claimed his first European Challenge Tour title with a six under par final round 65 to win the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by the R&A at Newmacher Golf Club in Aberdeenshire. The Englishman, who celebrated his 25th birthday earlier this week, produced rounds of 70-68-66-65 for a 15 under par total, one stroke ahead of Frenchman Romain Wattel who finished in solo second on 14 under par.

Bairstow, playing in his first season as a professional, produced a bogey-free weekend to make sure of a memorable win that sees him climb into the top 20 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings for the first time. He is now well-placed to secure promotion to the DP World Tour which is something he admits he hadn’t considered at the beginning of the year.

“I didn’t really know the position I was in until I saw the scoreboard on the 16th,” he said. “From there it was a case of trying to focus on what I was doing. “Going into this year I really didn’t know what to expect given it was my first year on the Challenge Tour. I was just thinking about keeping my card, never mind winning or getting into the top 20 in the Rankings and possible promotion to the DP World Tour.

“Yesterday I saw the forecast was going to be a bit windy and I just played really smart. I knew it wasn't going to be as windy today but I thought if I did the same, I wouldn't be too far off. There were plenty of chances out there, so it was all about keeping the mistakes off the card.”
