Asian Tour & PGA Tour of Taiwan-Chinese Taipei - Mercuries Taiwan Masters

Thailand's Rattanon Wannasrichan secured a comfortable victory at the US$1 million Mercuries Taiwan Masters, despite a bogey on his final hole. His aggregate score of five-under par was enough to finish one stroke ahead of his compatriot, Suradit Yongcharoenchai, in a demanding tournament where only six players finished under par.

Rattanon's win, his third on the Asian Tour, was a testament to his mental fortitude. He admitted to struggling with his driver but credited his approach to the round for his success. He didn't check the leaderboard until the 17th hole, when he learned he had a one-shot advantage.

Suradit Yongcharoenchai had a late surge, including a spectacular eagle on the 16th hole, but a dropped shot on the following hole sealed his fate. He was still happy with the runner-up finish.

Local favourite Wang Wei-hsuan delighted the home crowd with a solo third-place finish, his second consecutive top-three result. The victory moves Rattanon from 20th to fourth in the Order of Merit.

The triumph ends a three-year wait for a professional title, with Katsumata admitting he felt "pathetic" at times watching his peers win while he struggled.

The win holds special significance for Katsumata, who will turn 30 next year. The victory fulfils a long-held ambition to win in his twenties and sets the stage for him to become a more consistent winner in the future.
