PGA Tour - Charles Schwab Challenge

Emiliano Grillo made a 5-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole at Colonial to get his first PGA Tour victory in more than 7 1/2 years, after blowing a two-stroke lead with a double-bogey on the 72nd hole Sunday.

Grillo curled in the winning putt at the 186-yard 16th hole, the same hole where he had taken the solo lead before needing a playoff. Grillo and Adam Schenk, who both finished at 8-under 272, had two-putt pars from 26 feet at No. 18 to start the playoff.

It was the second PGA TOUR win for Grillo, the 30-year-old from Argentina whose only other win was in Napa in October 2015. He had four other top-10 finishes this season. This win returns him to the Top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time since February 2019.

Schenk, the 31-year-old Indiana native in his 171st PGA TOUR event, got his second runner-up finish of the season. He's still seeking his first victory after a 72 playing in the final group Sunday.

DP World Tour - KLM Open

Pablo Larrazábal secured his second DP World Tour victory in three starts and ninth in total after producing a big finish to win the 2023 KLM Open by two shots. The Spaniard saw his overnight lead evaporate in the early stages of Sunday's fourth round, but he recovered with a series of birdies to sit in a five-way tie at the top after 12 holes. He finished with a flourish, birdieing the 15th, 17th, and 18th to sign for a closing 69 and finish the tournament on 13 under par.

Larrazábal, who came into the week fresh from playing four rounds at last week's US PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, now has two victories in 2023, having won the Korea Championship Presented by Genesis in April.

Fellow Spaniard Adrian Otaegui finished alone in second on 11 under after closing his final-round 70 with a birdie. Rasmus Højgaard and Deon Germishuys were then in a tie for third, one stroke further back.

The win is Larrazábal's first since he turned 40 earlier this month, and he hopes to follow in the footsteps of countryman Miguel Ángel Jiménez by enjoying continued success over the next decade.

He said: "It doesn't matter how fast you run at the beginning; you have to run fast at the end to win the race. And that's what I did. What a putt on the last. I tried to make two putts from 20 feet and suddenly I made it.

"I'm so proud of myself and so proud of my team. We struggled big time through Covid but here we are - four wins in the last 15 months. It means too much to me. Hopefully I do 20 per cent of what Miguel did in his forties. This is the first win of 40."

Furthermore, Pablo Larrazábal win took him to his best position held in the Official World Golf Ranking now ranked 53rd.

Challenge Tour & Nordic Golf League- Copenhagen Challenge

Matteo Manassero returned to the winner’s circle on the weekend of the ten-year anniversary of his BMW PGA Championship victory, with his maiden European Challenge Tour title at the Copenhagen Challenge presented by Ejner Hessel. The Italian, a four-time DP World Tour winner and the youngest player to win three times on the Tour, shot a bogey-free final round 66 to claim a one-shot victory at 12 under par for his first win on the Challenge Tour and his first title since winning the 2020 Toscana Open on the Alps Tour.

The 30-year-old started the day six shots behind overnight leader Matias Honkala but carded a flawless final round six under par, including a three-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to claim his first European Tour group sanctioned victory since his heroics at Wentworth in 2013.

“There are a lot of emotions,” he said. “It has been ten years now since I won on Tour so I guess May is a good time of the year for me.

“I’m ten years older. I’ve had a lot of down periods during those ten years but I’m still here and now I’m holding the trophy, which means I’ve done a lot of good things as well in that period of time. That’s all I’m focussing on now. In the past maybe I didn’t enjoy enough of the good times, but I definitely will now.

“I came into this week with doubts about my game and I wasn’t feeling great. This golf course isn’t a course that you can afford not to be feeling great but sometimes you grind, and it doesn’t happen and sometimes suddenly it clicks.

“Golf is a strange and hard to understand at times, and probably we shouldn’t try too hard to understand it.”

Japan Golf Tour - Gate Way To The Open Mizuno Open

Hirata pulls off a sensational victory to become the Tour’s 400th first-time winner. Kensei Hirata staged a dramatic comeback to win the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open and secure his maiden JGTO breakthrough after beating Keita Nakajima on the third playoff hole on Sunday.

In doing so, the Mizuno-sponsored player has etched his name into JGTO history books as the 400th first-time winner since the Tour’s inception in 1973.

The 22-year-old Hirata, who is competing in his second full season on Tour, with a tied-sixth at this year’s Kansai Open being his best finish, also earned himself a well-deserved debut at the 151st Open in July, a major championship.

“It’s really a dream come true for me. Getting my JGTO breakthrough and punching my ticket to the Open this week! I’m loss for words. When I got my Tour card last year, my goal was to get my first win this year and I did it.

“It’s not going to be easy competing in The Open, but I’m really excited to be going there in July and getting the chance to play against the world’s best players,” said Hirata.

Sunshine Tour - KitKat Cash & Carry Pro-am

Louis Albertse was all smiles after winning the Kit Kat Cash and Carry Pro-Am and R320 000 at Irene Country Club on Sunday, but he said even though he triumphed by a comfortable four strokes it felt like he had been climbing mountains all day.

Albertse finished in style by sinking a 30ft putt for birdie on the 18th hole, completing an impressive four-under 68 in the final round, and a total of 23-under-par for the R2 million event, well clear of Kyle Barker in second place on 19-under.

But both playing partner Malcolm Mitchell and Barker had put Albertse under pressure through the final day. Nevertheless, Albertse was not to be swayed on Sunday. He made a pair of crucial birdies around the turn and then played solid, error-free golf to par his way to the last hole.

“It’s always really hard to win, it never gets easier. Everyone here is extremely talented and the pressure can get to you; 18 holes is a long time,” the representative of Dundee Golf Club, in the foothills of the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg, said after his second Sunshine Tour victory.

Asian Development Tour & All Thailand Golf Tour- Singha Laguna Phuket Open

Indonesia’s Naraajie Ramadhanputra was crowned champion at the Singha Laguna Phuket Open today, the overnight leader being confirmed as the winner after the event was cut to 54 holes due to inclement weather.

Naraajie, winner of two ADT events in 2022, started the day well and was already extending his lead when the tournament organizers suspended play at 11.32am local time due to rain and a lightning storm.

“Unfortunately we have had to cancel play for today due to the threat of lightning,” said Tournament Director Phutthisarn Sricharuviphat. “We stopped play at 11.32 and although we waited to see if the weather would improve, by the time we reached 3.15pm the committee judged there would not be enough time remaining for players to prepare and resume play so the tournament was cut to 54 holes.”

Second place was secured by Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat, who was three shots back at -12, followed by his compatriot Poom Saksansin in third on -11. Wocheng Ye of China, Australia’s Jack Murdoch and Thailand’s Runchanapong Youprayong, Itthipat Buranatanyarat and Nopparat Panichphol finished in a group in fourth place on -10.

PGA Tour Latinoamerica - Colombia Classic presentado por Rocha Brothers

Walker Lee, a 25-year-old from Houston, Texas, sank a 15-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole for a one-shot win at the Colombia Classic presented by Rocha Brothers. Trailing by three at the start of the day, Lee secured the come-from-behind win by firing a 6-under 64 Sunday. The winner finished at 19-under 261, edging Austin Hitt of Longwood, Florida, who also carded a final-round 64 to charge into solo second. With his first career win on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, Lee became the new Totalplay Cup No. 1, with only three tournaments left to play this season.

Leading at 19-under with six holes to play, Stuart Macdonald of Vancouver, Canada, missed his chance of claiming the win with a rough stretch of three consecutive bogeys that started on No. 14. He birdied the last to shoot 68 and finish solo third, at 17-under.

“I’ve been playing relatively solid all year. I scrambled well in Peru and finished top 10, and I actually played pretty well in Quito and finished 29th. I knew my game was close, and to see it finally payoff is fulfilling,” said Lee. He entered the week ranked 16th in the Totalplay Cup standings.
