PGA Tour - Wyndham Championship

Cameron Young has finally claimed his first PGA TOUR title at the Wyndham Championship, ending a frustrating run of seven runner-up finishes. The American golfer made it look easy on Sunday, starting his round with five consecutive birdies to build a commanding nine-shot lead. He finished with a two-under 68, securing a six-stroke victory.

Young's win makes him the 1,000th player to win a recognised PGA TOUR event. Speaking after his win, an emotional Young said, “I've been waiting for it for a while. I never thought I'd be that emotional about it, but it's the end of my fourth season. I've had my chances and I wasn't going to let it get away from me.”

The victory comes at an ideal time for the 28-year-old, as he hopes to make a case for a spot on the US Ryder Cup team. Young’s win moves him to No. 15 in the standings, with two FedExCup playoff events remaining to impress selectors.

There was drama elsewhere on the course as players battled to make the top 70 in the FedExCup standings and qualify for the postseason. In a dramatic turn of events, Germany’s Matti Schmid, who started the day at No. 70, secured his spot with three consecutive birdies on his final three holes, while Davis Thompson narrowly missed out.
