News for the 9 Eligible Official World Golf Ranking Tournaments

Major - U.S. PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

Brooks Koepka looked like he was going to take command of the PGA Championship after he made three consecutive birdies early in Sunday’s final round. Instead, his hot start set the stage for a dramatic duel that lasted much of the final round at Oak Hill Country Club.

Koepka, who began Sunday with a one-shot lead, pulled three ahead with birdies on Nos. 2-4. The first two came on 4-footers after he knocked approach shots stiff, and the third was from just 9 feet.

It looked like the Koepka of old, the one who won four majors from 2017-19 and seemed invincible in the game’s biggest events. But he had to hold off a determined Viktor Hovland to win his fifth major and third PGA Championship.

It wasn’t until a three-shot swing on the 16th hole that Koepka’s victory at Oak Hill seemed certain. That put him four shots ahead with two holes remaining. Koepka went on to win by two, shooting a final-round 67 to finish at 9-under 271. Hovland finished second, as did Scottie Scheffler who returned to World Number One in the Official World Golf Ranking.

“This is probably the sweetest one of them all because all the hard work that went into this one, this one is definitely special,” said Koepka, who battled injuries between this victory and the 2019 PGA Championship.

Korn Ferry Tour - AdventHealth Championship

Grayson Murray, a previous winner on both the PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour, won the 2023 AdventHealth Championship by a stroke over Wilson Furr and Rico Hoey, despite a double bogey on the 72nd hole after a wayward tee shot. Murray earned his first win in PGA TOUR-sanctioned play since the 2017 Barbasol Championship on TOUR, as well as his first Korn Ferry Tour win since the 2016 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.

“It hasn’t really sunk in,” Murray said. “Six years is a long drought, far longer than I wanted. Sometimes your highs are high out here and your lows are low. It’s a very humbling sport. I’ve been working really hard, and this is a testament to the hard work.

“My parents have been through hell and back basically for the last six years with me fighting some mental stuff,” Murray continued. “It’s not easy on me, and the people around me that love me, they don’t like to see me down. They’ve been my No. 1 supporters. There’s a few friends as well that have been there, and it makes these moments a lot more special when you can share it with them.”

Murray’s comeback victory began Saturday evening, when he birdied his final four holes and moved within two strokes of Furr, the outright 54-hole leader. Murray closed with a 4-under 68 Sunday, and the double bogey on par-5 18th was just his second score of bogeys or worse all week, with his only other blemish coming at the par-4 seventh in his second round.

Murrays Win returns him back into the Top 300 in the Official World Golf Ranking since the Genesis Open in February 2019.

The Swede, playing in his first event of the 2023 season, fired a five under par final round 66 to reach 14 under par for the week to win by one shot ahead of South African Brandon Stone.

“It’s huge for my career. I missed out on my full card last year, so this makes it a lot easier to plan my schedule going forward.

“Both days this weekend I had some great putts that rolled in so that’s always nice. I made a huge putt on the first today to get into a good mood, and I kept it rolling well on the front after that.”

Japan Golf Tour - Golf Partner Pro - Am Tournament

Pagunsan fends off Japanese challenge to end two-year title drought in Japan. Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines successfully held off Taihei Sato's charge to secure a two-shot victory at the Golf Partner Pro-Am Tournament on Sunday, marking his second title in his JGTO career.

The 45-year-old, who had led the tournament since the second round, remained composed and delivered an impressive four-under-par 66. Finishing the week with a winning total of 23-under-par 257, Pagunsan claimed the ¥12,000,000 winner's cheque.

The highly anticipated final round was initially expected to be a head-to-head battle between Pagunsan and Taiga Semikawa, who began the day only one stroke behind. However, as Semikawa struggled in the middle of the duel, it was Sato who emerged as the potential obstacle to Pagunsan's quest of becoming the season's first international winner in a full-field event.

The 29-year-old Sato, still in pursuit of his breakthrough on JGTO, quietly climbed up the leader board and at one point found himself trailing Pagunsan by only one stroke with four holes remaining. Nevertheless, Sato's remarkable bogey-free 62 was only sufficient to secure a shared second place with Semikawa, who staged a late comeback with a closing 67, finishing at 21-under overall.

Despite the mounting pressure from Sato, Pagunsan displayed unwavering composure and extended his lead by securing birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. He even had the luxury of bogeying the 18th, his third of the day, to seal the memorable victory in the presence of his family.

"I am extremely happy right now. Winning for the second time in Japan has always been a dream of mine, and I am thrilled to have accomplished it," said Pagunsan, who previously secured his JGTO breakthrough by winning the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open title in 2021.

Sunshine Tour - Zanaco Masters

Zimbabwe’s Robson Chinhoi has won a couple of times on the Safari Tour, but on Sunday he clinched his first title of global significance when he won the Zanaco Masters at Lusaka Golf Club in a playoff over Neil Schietekat, in just his 11th Sunshine Tour start.

Chinhoi, who began the day two shots off the lead, put himself in contention by collecting two birdies in a bogey-free front nine, and then claimed the lead with three more birdies on the back nine, before a pulled drive saw him bogey the 17th and then only make par on the par-five final hole, leaving him with a 68 for 17-under-par for the tournament.

That was enough to get him into a playoff though, with Schietekat, the winner of the previous event on the Sunshine Tour, the FBC Zimbabwe Open a fortnight ago. Schietekat was six-under for his final round through 13 holes, roaring up the leader board, but he then made a crucial bogey on the par-four 14th hole and then could only par his way into the clubhouse.

The pair played the 515-metre 18th hole again in the playoff and the 32-year-old Chinhoi produced an excellent tee-shot that left him 207 metres from the green. From there he hit a seven-iron short of the green, made sure he left his chip below the hole on the hard green, and calmly slotted a five-foot putt for birdie to claim the title, as the experienced Schietekat could only make par.

“I am just so grateful, I thank God, for this victory because it puts my name on the map,” a delighted Chinhoi said. “This win will be life and game-changing for me. I was getting tired of being in my comfort zone, I wanted to go away and play at another level. I managed to lift my game and this week has changed everything.”
