PGA Tour - Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches

Austin Eckroat played the waiting game to earn his first PGA TOUR title Making his 50th start on TOUR, the Oklahoma State alum had to deal with delays and a Monday finish to finally make it over the line at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.

He needed it to withstand a wild week at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, which extended into Monday because of inclement weather. Eckroat navigated the extra night in the spotlight, a congested leaderboard, and one of the scariest closing stretches in golf at PGA National to shoot a final-round 67 and win the Cognizant Classic by three strokes, his maiden PGA TOUR victory.

Eckroat took the sole lead by a shot when play was halted Sunday night and he never let up, returning Monday morning to PGA National to put the finishing touches on a three-shot win. Min Woo Lee challenged Eckroat early on with an eagle and a birdie in a three-hole stretch to get within a shot. But Eckroat birdied the 12th and 13th holes to break away and take The Bear Trap.

“This has always been my dream to win on the PGA TOUR,” Eckroat said after his winning putt dropped. With the victory, Eckroat earns 500 FedExCup points, as well as spots into THE PLAYERS, the Masters and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Korn Ferry Tour - 117 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro

The Korn Ferry Tour crowned yet another first-time winner, its fifth in a row to start the 2024 season, as Mason Andersen defeated two-time winner Kris Ventura on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff at the 117th Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro. Through the Visa Argentina Open’s partnership with The R&A, Andersen’s victory also earned him an exemption for the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.

An emotional Andersen pumped his fists in the air after the winning putt, on his way to accept the trophy, and upon conclusion of an emotional winner’s speech. The significance of the victory hit Andersen in waves, and the emotion poured out of him as he embraced his father just off Olivos Golf Club’s 18th green.

“Winning is just so hard in golf,” Andersen said. “You never win, you never win, and you come close a bunch of times, but winning’s just so hard. To do it with my dad here and my girlfriend here… yeah, pretty emotional.”

Sunshine Tour & DP World Tour - SDC Championship

American Jordan Gumberg secured his maiden DP World Tour title after beating home favourite Robin Williams in a play-off to win the 2024 SDC Championship. The 28-year-old started the day three shots off the lead but fired a flawless 68 on Sunday before holing his birdie putt from around 15 feet at the second extra hole to enter the winner's circle.

Williams had led for much of the day after carding four early birdies, but he surrendered a double bogey at the 17th to finish alongside Gumberg on 12 under par after 72 holes. And after both men safely parred the first playoff hole, Gumberg rolled in his putt to seal the win. Frenchman David Ravetto finished alone in third place on ten under after signing for a closing 70.

Things looked like going from bad to worse for Williams, as Gumberg had a birdie putt at the 18th and an opportunity to take the outright lead. But with Gumberg sliding his putt by to set the target at 12 under, Williams recovered from missing the 18th green to safely par the last and force a play-off.

Although Williams did not put a foot wrong in the play-off, Gumberg was closer with his approach shots and managed to take advantage at the second extra hole. An emotional Gumberg said at the trophy presentation: "I'm so thankful to be standing here.

"It means everything. I never really got this far in my dreams. So I'm kind of at a loss for words but it means everything.

"It's what we fight for every day, it's what we practise for, it's the early hours, the late hours, everything. This is incredible.

"I want to thank my fiancée, first and foremost, she's amazing. I wouldn't be here without her. And my family back home. My dad has put so much into my golf game and just to be standing here for him and my mum and everybody just means the world."

PGA Tour of Australasia & Asian Tour - 103rd New Zealand Open presented by Sky Sport

Takahiro Hataji has created history with his first victory as a professional, becoming the first player from Japan to win the New Zealand Open in its 103-year history. On an absorbing final day at the Millbrook Resort in Queenstown, Hataji held off a persistent stream of potential challengers with a bogey-free round of 4-under 67 to win by a single stroke with a four-round total of 17-under par.

Co-leader overnight, Australian Scott Hend (69) arrived at the 72nd hole with a share of the lead. After hitting his tee shot to the back edge of the 18th green, Hend’s putt for the championship ran five feet past, his comebacker for par lipping out hard off the left edge to fall one shot short in outright second.

Boasting five top-five finishes on the Japan Golf Tour in 2023, 30-year-old Hataji is not only the first player from Japan to win the New Zealand Open but the first from Asia, surpassing the runner-up finishes of countrymen Tomoyo Ikemura (2023) and Hideto Tanihara (2016).

Hataji also became the first Japanese winner on the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia since Isao Aoki won the 1989 Coca-Cola Classic at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

“It was a really tough day but I have the trophy, so I am feeling very happy now,” said Hataji after taking ownership of the Brodie Breeze Trophy.

“I’m happy but he played very well so when his putt missed, I felt a bit sorry for him too,” he added of Hend’s final hole misfortune.

Alps Tour Golf - New Giza Open

Italy’s Edoardo R Lipparelli, 27, wins his second Alps Tour title at the 2024 New Giza Open. He was in a tie for 4th place after yesterday’s round 2 and today he shot a fabulous bogey-free 9 under-par, 63 to conclude the tournament with a three-day total of 17 under-par.  He is a past winner on the Alps Tour, won the 2018 Alps Tour Order of Merit and has collected several top 3 finishes over the years. After his win, Lipparelli proudly commented:

“I’m very pleased, I played well today. Obviously, when you put together a bogey-free round it’s always special but today my game was very solid. I always try to focus on hitting shot by shot and not focus on the overall result. I began my round making 4 birdies in the first 5 holes and even after doing that, I tried to focus on one shot at a time.”  He added that this is a special win to him as: “it shows that the hard work I did this off-season is paying off. It’s good to be back in the winner’s circle after these past few years. My goal remains the same which I think is the same as most of us players have, which is to conclude the season in the top 5 spots to earn one of the Challenge Tour cards.” Lipparelli also mentioned how “I found that the level of golf the players competing on the Alps Tour are playing has grown tremendously over the years. It showed even today with the scores that were made. There will be some exciting battles this season.”

ProGolf Tour - Golf Mad Championship

James Meyer de Beco won the Golf Mad Championship 2024. The Belgian won the play-off against Mathieu Decottignies-Lafon (France) on the third extra hole and celebrated his first victory on the Pro Golf Tour. Third place was shared by Antoine Pouguet (France) and Jacob Jorgensen (Denmark).

The final turned out differently than hoped. After numerous mild sunny days over the tournament days at the picturesque Lykia Links Golf Club, it was the third and final round that was adversely affected by the weather. Due to the risk of thunderstorms, tournament director Marcus Hamberger called the players off the course - and with the risk remaining unchanged, he had no choice but to cancel the results of the third round that had already been recorded in the morning. The score after 36 holes was therefore also the final result.

Meyer de Beco and his French playing partner had started the final round tied on five under par. The horn sounded just as the duo were on the third green. After a break of several hours and distraction with darts and billiards in the clubhouse, they were able to continue.

In the play-off on the rainy afternoon, the 24-year-old from Liège had luck on his side. After two pars on each of the first two extra holes, Decottignies-Lafon missed his ball into the high rough on his third attempt. The 31-year-old subsequently gave up on the hole. Meyer de Beco celebrated his first title as a pro.

"It feels great," commented the winner of the 5,000 Euro prize money. "I knew I was in very good shape. A lot of things came together this week. At the beginning of the season, I had a few problems with my putting, but that was much better. There were no weak points in my game."

Alps Tour Golf - Red Sea Little Venice Open

After three days of fabulous golf, Spanish amateur Jose A. Sintes Navarro wins the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open with a total score of 16 under-par. In a three-way tie for 2nd place at 15 under-par: Italy’s Enrico Di Nitto, Spain’s Eduard Rousaud and Austria’s Lukas Lipold. Eighteen years old amateur player, Jose A. Sintes Navarro from Spain captures his first Alps Tour win at the 2024 Red Sea Little Venice Open. He shot a bogey-free 6 under-par,66 during today’s final round for a three-day total of 16 under-par. When he realized what he had achieved, he was very content.

“I played very solidly all week, missing only a couple of shots overall, which allowed me to be very calm and put together good results. What I did today by winning it’s incredible. I’m still speechless that I won on the Alps Tour as an amateur in my second event, but I truly believe that if you trust that you can do it, it will be possible.”

When asked about his goals for the season and plans on turning professional Sintes Navarro explained: “I’m not sure what I will do to be honest, the plan was to combine amateur events with the Alps Tour events, but I will see if something will change once I get back home.”

Italy’s Enrico Di Nitto, 31 years old shot a bogey-free final round of 5 under-par, 67 to conclude the tournament in a three-way tie for 2nd place at 15 under-par alongside Spain’s Eduard Rousaud and Austria’s Lukas Lipold. He made 3 birdies on his opening front nine and then added another birdie on the 12th and 18th hole to end his day.
