PGA Tour - Rocket Classic

South Africa's Aldrich Potgieter, the youngest and biggest hitter on the PGA TOUR, clinched his first career title today at the Rocket Classic. The 20-year-old sank an 18-foot birdie putt on the fifth playoff hole to defeat Max Greyserman in a protracted and dramatic finish at Detroit Golf Club.

The playoff, the longest of the season, saw Chris Kirk eliminated on the second extra hole after missed opportunities by all three contenders to secure victory on the 72nd hole. Potgieter, who began the final round with a two-stroke lead, closed with a 69.

Potgieter's triumph marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career. The former British Amateur champion, who earned his PGA TOUR card just after his 20th birthday, shared an emotional embrace with his caddie and father, Heinrich, after securing the win. He reflected on the sacrifices made by his family, moving between South Africa and Australia, and the challenges of starting his US career alone.

Despite a valiant effort, Greyserman expressed his disappointment, stating, "This one's going to sting for a little bit." Meanwhile, two-time major winner Collin Morikawa continued his wait for a PGA TOUR victory, finishing tied for eighth.
