World Golf Championship – WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession 2021

Collin Morikawa produced a brilliant display of front running to win his first World Golf Championships title at the WGC - Workday Championship at The Concession 2021 moving back to World No.4.

The American entered the day with a two shot lead and while he was caught in the early stages, he showed no signs of nerves and regained his advantage at the turn, never looking back as he signed for a 69 and cruised to a three shot victory at 18 under.

Norway's Viktor Hovland and Americans Billy Horschel and Brooks Koepka finished in a share for second.

Many in the field were wearing red and black as a show of support to Tiger Woods after his car accident earlier in the week and Morikawa joined the 15 time Major Championship winner in an exclusive club of two.

The reigning US PGA Championship winner's victory at the age of 24 saw him become just the second player alongside Woods to win a Major and a WGC before the age of 25.

PGA Tour - Puerto Rico Open

Branden Grace closed eagle-birdie Sunday to win the Puerto Rico Open, an emotional triumph following his father's January death after a month-long fight with the coronavirus. Grace moves from World No.147 to 83. Grace holed out from a greenside bunker for eagle on the par-4 17th and birdied the par-5 18th for a one-stroke victory over Jhonattan Vegas at windy Grand Reserve.

“This morning I had a tear in the car when I was talking to my wife,” Grace said about father Peter. “It was an emotional day. I thought about him a hell of a lot out there, especially the last tee shot. I was really struggling the last hole, because I knew he was watching over me. I knew he was guiding me."

The 32-year-old South African player won for the second time on the PGA TOUR and 13th worldwide, closing with a 6-under 66 to finish at 19-under 269.

“It’s been a very tough couple of years and a tough couple of months and it’s just nice to — obviously, with all the support back home with my wife and my son and my family and everybody back home,” Grace said. “And all that we have been through, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel.”

Vegas, from Venezuela, birdied the 18th in a 65. Puerto Rican player Rafael Campos and Grayson Murray, tied for the third-round lead, each shot 70 to tie for third at 16 under.

Professional Golf Tour of India - Glade One Masters 2021

Om Prakash Chouhan of Mhow dominated the final day’s proceedings to win the Glade One Masters 2021 with a four-shot margin at 17-under-199. Chouhan shot a five-under-67 at the magnificent Glade One Golf Resort in Ahmedabad on Friday to make up for his heartbreaking loss on the PGTI last week.

Gurugram’s Manu Gandas took second place at 13-under-203 after firing a one-under-71 in the final round.

The unique format for the tournament was as follows. The first two rounds consisted of nine holes each. The cut was applied after 18 holes. The third and fourth rounds comprised 18 holes each. The tournament was played over a total of 54 holes.

Om Prakash Chouhan (35-33-64-67), the overnight joint leader along with Manu Gandas, was off to a flying start with birdies on the second and third thanks to his accurate lob wedge approach shots that left him short putts. Om Prakash all but ran away with the match after his eagle-birdie on the eighth and ninth gave him a six-shot lead over nearest rival Manu Gandas who was one-over at the turn.

Chouhan produced a magical pitching wedge shot from the fairway bunker on the eighth for the second day in succession as he once again found the hole from 115 yards and picked up an eagle-two just like he had done in round three. The birdie on the ninth came as a result of a 15-feet conversion.

Interestingly, ‘OP’ as Chouhan is fondly referred to by his fellow professionals, had also dominated last week’s event at Kalhaar Blues & Greens in Ahmedabad having led for the first three days. However, a quadruple bogey after finding the water on the seventh hole in the final round put paid to his chances last week and saw him finish tied third.

The 34-year-old Chouhan said, “I’m relieved to have won today especially after the disappointment of last week. I had told myself at the start of this event that I will not repeat the mistakes of last week. The previous week was one of the rare occasions when I played in the leader group during the final round and did not win.

“I have now won six times while playing in the leader group in round four. When I’m in a good position I generally don’t let the opportunity slip away. But that didn’t happen last week so that was a big lesson for me.

“I must thank Mr. Ragesh Vasa who is a leading amateur golfer here in Ahmedabad for all his inputs about this course. He played a round with me in Kalhaar after the tournament last week and helped me regain my confidence by giving me some vital tips on how to tackle the challenges posed by the Glade One Golf Resort course. He helped me on all kinds of information about the Glade One course including the layout, yardages, green speed and reading the line on the greens. He was motivating me through my round today.

Big Easy Tour - Big Easy Road to # 6 - Centurion Country Club

Therion Nel carded unblemished rounds of 62 and 66 to claim a playoff victory over Michael Hollick for his maiden Big Easy Tour win at Centurion Country Club on Wednesday and says it’s all down to a sizzling-hot putter.“

The biggest thing was my putting,” Nel said after claiming his first win on this circuit. “The weather made things tough because even though the course was pretty scorable, it played a bit longer because the fairways and the greens were softer.”

The weather was a big factor in this week’s Big Easy IGT Challenge Tour Road To #6 at Centurion so that the first round had to be suspended with half the field yet to tee off because of dangerous weather. Nel was in the afternoon field and barely halfway through his round, play was suspended because of an approaching storm. It was Michael Hollick who sat atop the leaderboard after an opening round of five-under-par 65 before play was called and when round one play did eventually finish, it was Nel sitting at the summit after a bogey-free eight-under 62.

Tournament organisers then decided to cut the event short from a 54-hole event to a 36-hole tournament due to the unforgiving weather which continued to hit these parts of the Gauteng region.

In the second and final round, and teeing off before Nel again, Hollick raced to a spectacular seven-under-par 63 to take his tournament total to 12-under and wait for challengers to try and unseat him from the top.

Eight birdies and a bogey characterised Hollick’s round as he continues to build confidence but Nel had other ideas on Wednesday. A perfect four-under 66, combined with his opening-round 62, took his total to 12-under, forcing a playoff with Hollick.

“My game plan was not to make any drops,” he said, “and after the first round, I saw I was four shots behind and knew I had to play, at least, four-under in the second round. I just told myself to keep doing what I was doing and I was going to give myself chances and luckily it worked.

”Having fallen short of a victory on a few occasions on Tour already this season, the playoff presented Nel with a unique opportunity to claim his maiden title at the expense of a Sunshine Tour winner.
