PGA Tour – 3M Open

Michael Thompson birdied two of the last three holes Sunday for a 4-under 67 and a two-stroke victory in the 3M Open, finishing off his second PGA TOUR win seven years after his first. The Former World No.43 moved back into the World Top 100, jumping 119 spots to World No.99.

Adam Long took second after a 64. Richy Werenski, who shared the lead with Thompson after both Friday and Saturday, had a 70 for his worst round of the tournament and settled for a nine-way tie for third - three strokes back.

Thompson finished at 19-under 265 at TPC Twin Cities. Tony Finau finished in the third-place group, too, after a 68.

Nobody throughout the windy and muggy week in Minnesota was steadier than Thompson, who entered the week 151st in the FedEx Cup standings and rocketed up to 39th on the way to Memphis, Tennessee, for the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

He deftly steered around the water danger on the 18th, landing his approach on the back of the green within 15 feet. With Long in the clubhouse, having played five groups ahead, Thompson had two putts to win. He needed only one, bending backward and thrusting both of his arms straight up in the air after the ball dropped in the cup.

Thompson's best previous finish in this stopped-and-restarted 2019-2020 season was a tie for eighth at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, and he missed the cut in his last start at the Workday Charity Open in Ohio two weeks ago. For this win, he not only secured a spot in the U.S. Open but a prize of $1,188,000, nearly 12% of his career earnings on the PGA TOUR.

European Tour - Betfred British Masters hosted by Lee Westwood

Renato Paratore kept his cool to produce a brilliant display of front running and win his second European Tour title at the 2020 Betfred British Masters hosted by Lee Westwood moving back inside the Top 200 at World No.152.

The European Tour made its full return after just over four months in hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic and while the atmosphere was very different with no fans present, Paratore looked like he had never been away.

The Italian entered the final day at Close House Golf Club with a one shot lead was only briefly caught in tough, windy conditions in the north east of England, carding a 69 to finish at 18 under, three shots ahead of Dane Rasmus Højgaard, who closed with a 70.

Paratore lost out in a play-off to Højgaard at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open earlier this season but never looked like being caught by the 19-year-old as he added to the Nordea Masters title he won in 2017.

Despite being just 23 years old, Paratore was playing in his 159th event and became the second Italian winner of this trophy after Baldovino Dassu in 1976.

"I'm just really, really happy," he said. "I played really solid. I didn't expect to come back and win my second one after lockdown but I worked really hard the last year."

Korn Ferry Tour - Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper

Max McGreevy carded a bogey-free, 8-under 64 on Sunday to win the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper by one stroke at 21-under 267. McGreevy held off José de Jesús Rodríguez, who finished the week in solo-second at 20-under 268.

“It was really just a great week,” McGreevy said. “It still really hasn’t set in. I’ve never won a four-round event before. I’ve won a lot of three-round events but to be able to put something together on the final day and finally actually do it in a four-round event means a lot to me.”

Earlier in the week, McGreevy held a share of the first-round lead but began Sunday’s final round five strokes off the pace. On his front nine Sunday, the 25-year-old carded birdies on Nos. 2, 5 and 7 to make the turn at 16-under.

On the back nine, the University of Oklahoma product caught fire with a birdie on No. 10 and an eagle on the par-5 11th to reach 19-under for the tournament.

“I was very happy to get a lot early and I didn’t have to press as much at the end,” McGreevy said of his hot start. “Getting to 20 (under) I thought had a chance but luckily, no one went too low on me.”

After pars on Nos. 12-14, McGreevy tallied back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 to move to 21-under for the tournament and into the lead.

McGreevy teed off on the par-5 18th two shots ahead of Rodríguez who was still on the course. After laying up short of the green, McGreevy played a perfect third shot inside 10-feet to give himself a final look at birdie. Despite his best effort, the birdie attempt lipped out and he opened the window for Rodríguez.

After a birdie on the par-4 17th, Rodríguez found himself one stroke back at 20-under entering the 72nd hole. After laying up short of the green, he left himself a lengthy birdie putt for the tie. As McGreevy watched from a distance, Rodríguez’s birdie attempt slid past the hole, making McGreevy’s win official.
