Week 40 - ERNIE ELS WINS THE WGC-AMERICAN EXPRESS CHAMPIONSHIP AND TAKES OVER THE WORLD NUMBER TWO SPOT

Ernie Els won the WGC - American Express Championship at Mount Juliet Conrad in Ireland from a resurgent Thomas Björn to capture his first individual World Golf Championships title. Els jumps to World Number 2 while Björn climbs 18 places to 28th position in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Ernie Els won the WGC - American Express Championship at Mount Juliet Conrad in Ireland from a resurgent Thomas Björn to capture his first individual World Golf Championships title. Els jumps to World Number 2 while Björn climbs 18 places to 28th position in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Fred Funk birdied three of his final four holes to claim victory at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic on the PGA Tour and in the process regain his World Top 50 status in 46th position.

Toru Suzuki won the rain-shortened Acom International on the Japan Golf Tour where the final round had to be cancelled. Suzuki climbs 136 places to World Number 250.

This week’s other winners were Tom Whitehouse in the Estoril Challenge Open Portugal Telecom on the European Challenge Tour and Scott Dunlap at the Mark Christopher Classic on the Nationwide Tour.
