Week 38: Tiger Woods Wins His 6th WGC Event At The American Express Championship In Ireland

In the third of this year’s World Golf Championship events, Tiger Woods extended his lead at the summit of the World Rankings to 8.89 points as he shot a 25-under par total of 263 at the Mount Juliet Club in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. Woods’ collection of 34 PGA TOUR titles now includes two American Express Championships, a hat-trick of NEC Invitational titles and the 2000 WGC - EMC World Cup that he won with David Duval – the present World No.12.

Retief Goosen replaces Sergio Garcia at world No.4 as he equalled the new course record of 62 on Sunday to finish runner-up. The Fijian Vijay Singh finished in 3rd place to take the world No.8 spot and move Padraig Harrington to World No.9.

In the Tampa Bay Classic presented by Buick on the PGA TOUR,Choi Kyoung-Ju strolled to a 7-shot win as the Korean picked up his second victory of 2002 and moved up to a career-high No. 57 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Korea also now qualify for the EMC World Cup that is to be held in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on December 12-15.

On the Japan Golf Tour, Jumbo Ozaki won the ANA Open and moves up 30 positions to World No.120.

On the Asian PGA Tour, Danny Chia from Malaysia shot 76,70,77,68 to win the Acer Taiwan Open and move up to No.26 in the regional world ranking for Asia and up to No.573 in the world.

In the Albertson’s Boise Open on the BUY.Com tour, Jason Gorewon back-to-back and moves up to world No.347.
