The World No.1 Tiger Woods won his second Major of 2002 and the 8th of his career as he eased to victory at the US OPEN at the Bethpage Black golf course in Farmingdale, New York. Woods’ average at the top of the World Rankings leaps to a huge 17.06 – more than 7 clear points ahead of his nearest rival and this week’s runner-up Phil Mickelson. Woods now focuses on the OPEN Championship at Muirfield in 5 weeks time for the third leg of the elusive Grand Slam.

Jeff Maggert finished in 3rd position and Jeff moves up 51 spots to No.73 in the world. Sergio Garcia shot a final round 74 to finish 4th but he improves his World ranking position by one and moves to No.4 in the world. The defending Champion Retief Goosen drops one place to No.5 after missing the cut.

Scott Hoch finished 5= with Nick Faldo and as a result Scott moves up 4 places to No.25 and Nick returns to the World Top-50 at No.47.

On the European Challenge Tour, Alex Cejka won the Galeria Kaufhof Pokal Challenge at the Rittergut Birkhof Golf Club in Dusseldorf and moves to No.165. Nicolas Vanhootegem from Belgium won the Aa St. Omer Open at the Aa St Omer Golf Club and is now No.460. The new World No.219 Andre Stolz won the Queensland PGA Championship on the Australasian Golf Tour at the Gold Coast Country Club. On the Canadian Golf Tour, Mike Grob won the 2002 Ontario Open Heritage Classic and Mike moves to No.564 in the world.
