European Tour - Mutuactivos Open de España

Home hero Jon Rahm successfully defended his Mutuactivos Open de España title with a dominant five shot victory at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid moving 1 spot to World No.4.

The World Number Four carded a closing 66 that saw him finish at 22 under and enter the record books with a fifth European Tour victory in just his 39th start.

Rafa Cabrera Bello was his nearest challenger as Spaniards dominated the leaderboard, with World Number 1,413 Samuel Del Val at 15 under in just his fifth European Tour event.

The victory moved Rahm to the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex as he looks to become the first Spaniard to win the Harry Vardon Trophy since the late, great Seve Ballesteros in 1991.

The 24-year-old is now the fastest Spaniard to five European wins, achieving the feat in ten fewer events than Ballesteros at the venue where the 1997 Ryder Cup captain won his 50th and final European Tour title 24 years ago.

"In front of a home crowd, it's always really hard for me to keep everything under control and to play the weekend that I did for them, it's always really fun," he said. "I can't wait to come back next year and hopefully do it three times.

"He (Ballesteros) did turn pro a lot earlier than I did so age-wise I think he's beaten me. Still, to beat Seve in something, it's unbelievable. He's one of the main references from European golf and world golf in general.

"It's great that I've done it here, to beat Seve's record with his last professional win being at this course as well, it's very special for me. Any time I can do anything close to what he did is unbelievable.

"That's why I'm here. trying to make Spanish golf bigger and grow the sport in Spain like he did. Hopefully with these wins I'm doing a decent job."

PGA Tour – Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

Kevin Na lost a three-shot lead on the back nine, saved his chances with a clutch par putt on the 17th hole and won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in a playoff Sunday when Patrick Cantlay three-putted the second extra hole. Na earned 40 Ranking points moving from World No.40 to 24.

It was a wild finish at the TPC Summerlin made possible mainly by Na's mistakes.

Leading by three shots going to the back nine, he made triple bogey on the 10th hole without finding a hazard. Then, he hit into the water on the par-5 16th and lost the lead for the first time all day with a bogey.

But he delivered a 25-foot par putt on the 17th hole to tie for the lead after Cantlay went into the water, and he matched Cantlay's birdie putt on the 18th on the first extra hole.

A day of mistakes ended with the worst one -- a three-putt from Cantlay from 45 feet, the second one from just inside 6 feet.

Na, who closed with a 1-under 70, rolled in his 4-foot par putt and raised his arms in celebration. It was his third victory in the last 15 months, and third in as many seasons on the PGA TOUR. He joined Jim Furyk as the only multiple winners in Las Vegas.

"It came down way too close," Na said.

Cantlay was runner-up for the second straight year in Las Vegas, where he earned his first PGA TOUR victory two years ago. Even so, this was a tough loss to take. As much as he took advantage of Na's blunders, Cantlay made some of his own.

He two-putted the par-5 16th from 40 feet for a one-shot lead after Na hit into the water and made bogey. But on the next hole, Cantlay came up short and just enough left that the ball rolled back into the water.

He got up-and-down for bogey and looked as if he would keep his lead when Na went into a bunker and had such a perilous shot that he chose to play away from the flag to keep it out of the water. But he made the 25-footer for par.

On the closing hole, Cantlay hit the longest drive of the final round -- 345 yards -- and had only 113 yards left. But he could get no closer than 25 feet, and his putt hung on the right edge of the cup.

Cantlay, trying to win for the third time when facing a deficit of at least three shots, closed with a 68.

They finished at 23-under 261.

Japan Golf Tour – Top Cup Tokai Classic

South African Shaun Norris won his 4th victory on the Japan Golf Tour at the Top Cup Tokai Classic, becoming his most meaningful victory. After he made the less than 1-meter winning putt, he broke down in tears. His dearest father has passed away at the age of 75 on July 5th this year.

Shaun crouched down on the green and covered his crying face with both hands. His younger brother Kyle who caddied for Shaun this week came to raise him up and said quietly to his ears.

"I told you so that Dad will be watching from heaven above."

Shaun borrowed his brother's hands and finally got up.

"I dedicate this victory to my father" said Shaun as his voice was still shaking.

"I was able to make the 4th victory come tur with the support of my brother. I can't find enough words to describe this joy."

Shaun couldn't stop crying for a while.

Shaun Norris made 2 birdies in a row from the beginning and his lead became 4 shots. But soon after as recalled, "careless mistakes continued", as he made bogey on 4th followed by another bogey and double bogey which got his lead blown away.

Shaun had to keep his patience until the very end and continue fighting. His brother by his side really supported Shaun strongly. Shaun and his 2 brothers are also professional golfers following the footsteps of their father.

"Our father gave us the chance to play golf. I really wish that he would still be alive. I lost concentration to play golf after this big loss. I needed someone close to be with me."

That someone special was his 4 years younger brother Kyle, who used to caddy for him until 2 years ago. Today, at every tough moment, brothers were remembering what their father always told them.

"If you keep on believing, the chance will come."

Sunshine Tour - Vodacom Origins Stellenbosch

In a closely contested final round of the Vodacom Origins of Golf at Stellenbosch, where up to five players had a chance to walk away with the victory, it was Thriston Lawrence who claimed the win, albeit by a single shot on Saturday. Lawrence earned 4 Ranking points moving from 295 to World No. 261.

Trailing by five shots at the start of the round, the Nelspruit Golf Club representative had to dig deep to get himself into contention and he did just that. While many had their money on Jean-Paul Strydom and local men JJ Senekal and Deon Germishuys, Lawrence was quietly going about his business around the Stellenbosch Golf Club.

Three birdies, an eagle and a bogey on the front nine was always going to be a solid start to any round, but coming home and gaining confidence after each shot, Lawrence birdied the 12th and made another eagle, this time on the par-five 14th to get to 15-under-par for the tournament, a stroke ahead of Riekus Nortje, Germishuys, Strydom and Senekal.

“I’m quite speechless,” was the first thing he said after his round, “I was five shots back but I knew I was playing solidly all day. So, to get my first win is special.”

ProGolf Tour - Castanea Resort Championship

Finlands Sami Välimäki secured his fourth victory of the season and a 2nd place in the final ProGolf Tour Order of Merit with a masterful performance to win the Castanea Resort Championship in Adendorf in Germany.

Välimäki, a winner of three tournaments this year, had secured admission to the European Challenge Tour a few weeks prior. The 21-year-old started at Adendorf in 4th place in the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit, and quickly made it clear that he was seeking his fourth victory of the season and the overall winner's trophy as well. With a round of 67, he was just one shot behind the Frenchman Dimitri Darnaud in 2nd place after day 1; in the second round, shortened due to bad weather, the Nokia man added a 63 and was three shots ahead of the field. In the second round the tees were moved on four fairways and the holes played as par 3s to allow play to proceed after heavy rain.

Välimäki increased his advantage to five points on the final day with another round of 67 and a total 19 under par to secure his fourth victory of the season in style and likewise the 7800-euro first prize.

Asian Tour - Mercuries Taiwan Masters

Thailand’s Suradit Yongcharoenchai pocketed his career’s biggest prize cheque and win when he held on for a one-shot victory after his closest rivals failed to mount a challenge at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters on Sunday. Suradit earned 14 Ranking points moving from world No. 485 to 295.

Suradit, who started his final round at the Taiwan Golf and Country Club one shot back of overnight leaders, Ajeetesh Sandhu of India and Philippines’ Miguel Tabuena, closed with a two-under-par 70 to clinch his breakthrough on the Asian Tour where he made his debut as a 17-year-old in 2015.

Suradit started well with a birdie on his third hole but gave two shots back with a double-bogey six on the next hole. The Thai was quick to make amends when he charged to the turn with three birdies in his next four holes.

But after making another birdie on 13, he dropped a shot on 14 before making four straight pars to sign off with a four-day total of 10-under-par 278.

The Thai was left to wait for close to 30 minutes where he watched the final group in action from the sidelines.

While Sandhu signed off with a birdie, a costly double-bogey on 16 effectively ruined his chances of clinching his second Asian Tour title.

Tabuena had the best chance to force a play-off with Suradit on 18 but his approach landed in the bunker from where he could not get his ball onto the green, resulting in a bogey, which also confirmed Suradit’s entry into the winner’s circle for the first time.

Challenge Tour - Lalla Aïcha Challenge Tour

Oliver Farr carded a scintillating nine under par final round of 63 to produce a stunning comeback and win his third European Challenge Tour title at the Lalla Aïcha Challenge Tour.

The Welshman started the day four shots behind overnight leaders Jack Senior and Joel Sjöholm but soon charged up the leaderboard with three consecutive birdies from the third hole, picking up two further shots on the seventh and eighth to reach the turn in just 31 strokes.

Looking to secure his first victory since the 2017 Foshan Open, the 31-year-old kept his foot firmly on the pedal, posting four further birdies over his back nine, including on the 18th, to finish on 15 under par and record a three-shot victory over Englishman Senior, who finished in second place at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.

It was an emotional win for Farr, who has played only 11 Challenge Tour events this season after a busy and difficult year away from the course.

“It’s been a hard year for me and my family, so to get this win is extra special not just for me but for everyone back home,” he said.

PGA Tour LatinoAmerica - Banco del Pacifico Open presentado por Quito Alcaldia

Argentina’s Augusto Núñez entered the final round of the Banco del Pacífico Open presentado por Alcaldía de Quito with a two-stroke lead, Núñez showed he wanted no part of a nail-biter as he cruised to a surprisingly easy, six-shot triumph over Clodomiro Carranza. For a while, it looked like Núñez might make PGA TOUR Latinoamérica history, at one point holding a nine-shot advantage. Núñez’s winning margin couldn’t quite match the Tour’s record held by current PGA TOUR player Nate Lashley, who won the 2016 Shell Championship by 10 shots. Six strokes was more than enough for Núñez, though. As the Order of Merit leader when the week began, Núñez moved into firm control of the top spot through 11 tournaments, leading No. 2 Tom Whitney by a comfortable $37,110.

Big Easy Tour - Big Easy Challenge 13 – Parkview

Malcolm Mitchell won his second title of the season on the Big Easy Tour - Big Easy Challenge 13 – Parkview. Earning 3 Ranking points Mitchell moved 209 spots to a career best of World No. 674.

MENA Golf Tour - Journey to Jordan 2 – Ayla

England amateur Robin ‘Tiger’ Williams produced a grandstand finish, making birdies on his final five holes to win the $100,000 Journey To Jordan-2 tournament by a record-equaling margin of eight shots.

In the sixth leg of the 2019 season of the MENA Tour by Arena on Wednesday, the 18-year-old Williams shot a final-round six-under par 66 to finish on 16-under par for the 54-hole event, eight better than the second-placed Jack Floydd, another amateur from England.

Ranked 100th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Williams rewrote several records with his effort. He became the third amateur champion in the history of the MENA Tour and the 20th player to lead wire-to-wire. His eight-shot win was the biggest margin of victory in a 54-hole tournament, matching the previous mark set by Matthew Baldwin, also at Ayla Golf Club in the Journey To Jordan-1 earlier this year.
