European Tour – Omega Dubai Desert Classic

Sergio Garcia claimed his 12th European Tour title as he completed an utterly dominant wire-to-wire win at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The Spaniard set the tone with an opening 65 at Emirates Golf Club on Thursday and never looked back, finishing with a bogey-free 69 to get to 19 under and beat Open champion Henrik Stenson by three shots.

Garcia entered the final round with a three-shot lead and while back-to-back birdies from Stenson on the 13th and 14th applied some pressure, the 37 year old produced a stunning tee-shot on the 15th and a brilliant up-and-down on the next to ease to victory.

Englishman Tyrrell Hatton and Dane Lasse Jensen were then at 14 under, two shots clear of Matthew Fitzpatrick and Peter Uihlein.

PGA Tour – Waste Management Phoenix Open

Hideki Matsuyama won the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the fourth hole of a playoff for the second straight year, outlasting Webb Simpson on Sunday at TPC Scottsdale.

Matsuyama won with a 10-foot birdie putt on the short par-4 17th, the same hole where the 24-year-old Japanese star finished off Rickie Fowler a year ago.

Matsuyama closed with a 5-under 66, parring the final three holes to match Simpson at 17-under 267. Simpson birdied three of the last four for a 64, the best round of the day.

The tournament drew an estimated 58,654 fans Sunday to shatter the weekly record with 655,434. The previous mark of 618,365 was set last year. A record 204,906 packed the grounds Saturday.

Matsuyama took advantage of third-round leader Byeong Hun An's back-nine collapse. Three strokes ahead of Matsuyama, An bogeyed the first two holes on the back nine and closed with two more. The South Korean player had a 73 to finish sixth at 14-under.

Matsuyama won his second PGA TOUR title of the season and fourth overall. He has won five worldwide events in the last 3 1/2 months, also taking the WGC-HSBC Champions in China, two events in Japan and Tiger Woods' Hero World Challenge.

Asian Tour – Bashundhara Bangladesh Open

Young Thai talent Jazz Janewattananond cruised to his maiden Asian Tour victory after closing with a flawless four-under-par 67 to win by four shots at the US$300,000 Bashundhara Bangladesh Open on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Thai, who started the round with a four-shot advantage, showed nerves of steel as he completed a sensational wire-to-wire victory at the Kurmitola Golf club with a winning total of 17-under-par 267.

Jazz was delighted to get his career back on track after failing to keep his Asian Tour card for the first time in his career last season where he finished 63rd on the Order of Merit. He returned to the Qualifying School last month but did not manage to secure his card.

Home hero Siddikur Rahman flew his country’s flag high in his National Open where he emerged as the best-placed local player in second place following a 66 in what is the third leg of the Asian Tour schedule this season.

American Dodge Kemmer secured his best finish on the Asian Tour after returning with a 68 to take third place on his own on 273.

Thailand’s Panuphol Pittayarat, who turns 24 years old today, produced an impressive back nine 32 en route to a solid 67 to share fourth place on 274 with countryman Rattanon Wannasrichan (68) as well as Indian duo Chiragh Kumar (68) and Shubhankar Sharma (70).

PGA Tour of Australasia – Victorian PGA Championship

Damien Jordan has won the 2017 Victorian PGA Championship, the first event of the 2017 ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia season.

Surviving 36 holes at Huntingdale Golf Club today, Jordan fired rounds of 66, 70, 65 and 71 for a tournament total 16-under 272, handing him a two shot victory.

“I started with a bang this morning shooting 65 but with the wind getting up I knew it was going to be tough,” said Jordan, who had just a 30 minutes break in between the third and fourth rounds.

“After starting so well I knew every par was another hole closer to getting there and Pricey (Aron Price) pushed me the whole way.

“He made a great birdie on 17 and had really clutch putts all the way through the round. I knew I had to make that last putt if he made his; it was tough work out there today.”

This is Jordan’s first win on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and secures his status until the end of the 2018 as well as the first place prize cheque of AU$15,000.
