PGA Tour – CIMB Classic

There hasn’t been a successful title defense on the PGA TOUR since Matt Every won the 2014-2015 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. That is, until JT returned to TPC Kuala Lumpur.

Thomas entered the week at the CIMB Classic as the defending champion after winning in 2015 by one-shot over Adam Scott. He’s leaving with his second win on TOUR, both of which came in Malaysia and moves to World No. 21.

The 23-year-old talked about his second win during his press conference. “It was obviously a fun day. It couldn't have happened if it wasn't for my finish yesterday. That was huge for me and put me in a good position to have a chance to win today. I definitely owe a lot of it to that.”

That finish he was talking about was the five-straight birdies to finish his third round after starting the back nine with a bogey, double bogey, and another bogey.

He began the final round four-shots back of Anirban Lahiri and ended up with a three-shot victory. Lahiri had an up and down day that started with a quadruple bogey on the par-5 third hole. Lahiri hit his tee shot into a tree forcing him to hit another tee shot.

European Tour – Portugal Masters

Padraig Harrington claimed his first European Tour title in eight years as he held off the challenge of defending champion Andy Sullivan at the Portugal Masters.

The three-time Major Championship winner's last triumph on Tour was his 2008 win at the US PGA Championship and he showed all his experience under pressure in a closing bogey-free 65 to get to 23 under.

That was one shot better than Sullivan who also closed his week at Victoria Clube de Golfe with a 65, and two better than the semi-retired Anders Hansen and Finn Mikko Korhonen - who secured his playing privileges after starting the week 116th on the Race to Dubai.

The victory takes Harrington's European Tour tally to 15 wins and moves him alongside Thomas Bjørn at 15th on the all-time list.

"I haven't won yet this year, so I know the year is nearly done, it's always important to get a win every year, a winning year," he said.

"It's a big win. Portugal Masters is a big tournament. I've been coming here for ten years so I've always liked it down here. I've always liked coming down to Portugal.

Japan Golf Tour – Bridgestone Open

Satoshi Kodaira won his fourth Japan Golf Tour title at the Bridgestone Open one shot over Kyoung Hoon Lee.

Kodaira earns 18 World Ranking points moving to World No. 130.

Alps Tour Golf – Grand Final

Matt Wallace wrote the most amazing story in the 15 year Alps Tour history. The 26 year old Englishman won the Grand Final by AXA by one shot in front of Richard Jouven, thanks to closing 68, his sixth title this season and won the Order of Merit with almost twice as many points as the second Federico Maccario.

Some people could say, the circuit is too easy for him. What a lack of knowledge… Wallace is strong, very strong but he had played 3 full seasons on the Alps Tour before he became the genius on course in 2016. Whatever the circuit, 6 wins is an outrageous record.

He entered 9 events this season and his worst result was a 4th place. He won 6 times and 5 titles in a raw. His family were there for the Grand Final, he really wanted to win in front of them, for sure he learned to play with some pressure.

“It has been hard because I knew everybody will attack from all guys looking for the Challenge Tour card. And my objective was to win the tournament indeed. This was the most difficult victory of the year.”

Sunshine Tour – Vodacom Origins of Golf Euphoria

Jaco Ahlers earned his third Sunshine Tour win of the season and a sixth overall title as he cruised to a three-stroke win at the Vodacom Origins of Golf Euphoria, held at Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro.

Ahlers finished the 54-hole event on nine-under-par, with Jacques Kruyswijk his nearest challenger on six-under, and, the final day saw a completion of round two under searing temperatures.

“I’m a bit tired now I must say. 28 holes today in 30-plus heat – it’s been a long day. It does feel good and it has been coming. It’s promising and it is really nice,” said Ahlers.

The heavily weather-delayed tournament caused a late finish on Saturday evening, however, Ahlers kept his cool to hold onto victory.

“I think it’s a more experienced outfit. It shows. I’ve been playing solidly and today was all experience. Being there before and handing it, it just makes it a little bit easier,” he said.

With the lucrative co-sanctioned events on the horizon, Ahlers is eyeing another win in the near future, and if he achieves further silverware, he will echo the achievement of Dean Burmester from last year.

“The next goal is to have another one,” he laughed. “Hopefully we can have another one. Obviously Dean did it last year and it definitely isn’t impossible but we’ll just keep playing from here.”

Challenge Tour – Foshan Open

Marcus Armitage’s inaugural European Challenge Tour victory in the big-money Foshan Open catapulted him from 53rd to 11th in the Road to Oman Rankings and sealed his spot amongst the top 45 in the season-ending NBO Golf Classic Grand Final, set to take place at the spectacular Al Mouj Golf, Muscat from Wednesday 2 to Saturday 5 November.

The Englishman finished 19 under par, one ahead of France’s Matthieu Pavon and Germany’s Alexander Knappe, to claim a sizeable winner’s cheque that has all-but assured his spot in the top 15 on the Rankings, which earns him a coveted European Tour card for next season. However, the 29 year old has a bigger aim for the season.

“I want to go and win the Rankings,” said Armitage, a rookie on the Challenge Tour who now has 103,208 points for the season. “Now I have pretty much secured a European Tour card that is my goal – there is nowhere else to go.”

PGA Tour Latino America - Lexus Peru Open presented by Diners Club

A strong back nine of 5-under 31 that featured a title clinching chip-in for eagle at the par-5 No. 16, secured Tyler McCumber a three-shot win at the 2016 Lexus Peru Open presented by Diners Club. The 25-year old from Jacksonville, Florida shot 4-under 68 on Sunday to finish the week at 18-under 270.

With his win at Los Inkas Golf Club, the only venue that has welcomed a PGA TOUR Latinoamérica event for five straight seasons, McCumber became the seventh three-time champion in Tour history.

Korean Golf Tour – DGB Financial Group Daegu Gyeongbuk Open

Jungho Yoon won the DGB Financial Group Daegu Gyeongbuk Open earnming 9 World Ranking points moving from 1221 to World No. 566.

EuroPro Tour - Matchroom Sport Tour Championship

Peter Tarver-Jones won the Matchroom Sport Tour Championship by sudden-death play-off to seal an immediate return to the Challenge Tour.

The Worthing Golf Club pro shot a course record 63, nine under par, to join Richard James (Aberdovey Golf Club; 68, 70, 65) on -13 at the end of the final tournament of the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour season at Desert Springs Resort in Spain.

Despite a difficult lie, Tarver-Jones (70, 70, 63) nailed his approach on the first additional hole to within four feet and held his nerve to take the title, and a £20,000 winner’s cheque which propelled him to second on the Race To Desert Springs Order of Merit.

PGA Tour of Australasia – Isuzu Queensland Open

Victorian amateur Brett Coletta has won the 2016 Isuzu Queensland Open played at Brisbane Golf Club today.

Firing rounds of 67, 69, 67 and 70 for a tournament total 7-under 273, Coletta won the title by three shots from Lucas Herbert.

This becomes Coletta's first victory on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and will see him become fully exempt until the end of the 2017 season if he chooses to turn Professional.

Coletta becomes the first amateur to win the Isuzu Queensland Open since Stuart Appleby achieved the feat in 1991 when the tournament was last played at The Brisbane Golf Club.

MENA Golf Tour – Sahara Kuwait Championship

With thoughts of his ailing father occupying his mind, Joe Heraty kept his composure to win the inaugural Sahara Kuwait Championship, providing a fitting climax to a fantastic week of golf at the MENA Golf Tour’s inaugural event in the city on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Englishman closed with a bogey-free five-under 65 to finish at 13-under par, two clear of his compatriot Daniel Owen, who signed for a brilliant six-under 64 to climb up the leaderboard.

Chile’s Matias Calderon made the biggest move of the day, firing a brilliant 62 that matched the course record set on Monday by Heraty as he shared the leading amateur award with Brazil’s Tiago Lobo.

In a reflection on the rising standards of amateurs on the MENA Golf Tour, the South American duo joined England’s Jordan Garnish in a tie for third on 10-under.

It was young Heraty, whose father was diagnosed with brain tumor last week, who took centre-stage with a flawless round to get over the line for his maiden win on the MENA Golf Tour.

“This is for you, Dad,” an emotional Heraty said after receiving the winner’s trophy and a cheque for $9,000 from Yousef Abdulaziz Al Qatami and Wael Abdulrahman Al Welayti, both members of the Sahara Kuwait’s golf advisory committee.
