Japan Golf Tour – Japan Open

Hideki Matsuyama won his 6th Japan Tour title with a win in this week’s Japan Open at the Sayama Golf Club.

A final round of 69 saw Matsuyama two shots clear of Kyounghoon Lee and Yuta Ikeda moving to World No 13.

European Tour – British Masters supported by Sky Sports

Alex Noren won the British Masters supported by Sky Sports by two shots to secure his third European Tour title of the season.

The Swede, who has also tasted victory at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and Omega European Masters this year, produced a closing 69 at The Grove to finish on 18 under par, two strokes ahead of nearest challenger Bernd Wiesberger.

Home favourite Lee Westwood finished third after posting a superb final-round 67 to reach 15 under.

Play was suspended early on Sunday due to flooded greens but the fourth round got under way at 10.05 local time, with some players starting at the tenth tee.

Beginning the day with a three-shot lead, Noren made the perfect start to his fourth round, notching birdies at each of his first two holes to climb to 18 under.

PGA Tour – Safeway Open

Steele overcame a four-shot deficit in the final round, closed with three straight birdies on rain-soaked Silverado for a 7-under 65 and won by one shot over a faltering Patton Kizzire. It was Steele's first victory in 141 starts on the PGA TOUR dating to his rookie season when he won the Valero Texas Open.

"This is a little bit of redemption from last year," Steele said. "It's nice to close it off this way."

It was a tough ending for Kizzire, who had a one-shot lead going into the final round and looked like a winner when he stuffed his tee shot into 2 feet for birdie on the 11th hole for a two-shot lead.

He struggled to hit fairways the rest of the way, and while he dropped only one shot on the 12th, he couldn't keep Steele from gaining ground.

Steele hit 2-iron onto the green at the par-5 16th for a two-putt birdie. His 18-foot birdie putt on the 17th curled in the left side of the cup. And then he hit wedge into the par-5 18th and poured in a 7-foot birdie putt.

"You've got to really make something happen, especially when the conditions are soft," Steele said. "I wanted to be aggressive and I didn't want to just kind of coast in and just make sure that I had a decent week."

Challenge Tour – The Hainan Open

The Hainan Open in China was reduced to 36 holes due to torrential rain conditions and it was Germany’s Alexander Knappe who emerged victorious to climb from ninth to third in the Road to Oman, which gives him a fantastic chance of Rankings glory with just two events remaining before the season-ending NBO Golf Classic Grand Final, set to take place in Muscat from 2-5 November.

The 27 year old’s second victory of the season was enough to guarantee his playing privileges on the European Tour next season, with his place in the all-important top 15 of the Road to Oman Rankings secured.

After earning €37,483 from this triumph in China, Knappe took his season total to 131,688 points and is now just 22,211 off Road to Oman leader Jordan L Smith and 16,223 clear of New Zealand’s Olympic athlete Ryan Fox in fourth with the big-money Foshan Open, again in China, set to take place this week followed by the hotly anticipated Ras Al Khaimah 2016 Golf Challenge in the UAE and the season-closing showdown in Muscat.

Asian Tour – Venetian Macao Open

Pavit Tangkamolprasert secured his first Asian Tour victory at the Venetian Macao Open on Sunday to become the third Asian Development Tour (ADT) player to triumph on the region’s premier Tour this season.

Sunshine Tour – Sun Fish River Sun Challenge

Christiaan Bezuidenhout survived what he called the toughest five-hole stretch of his career on Friday before he broke through to take his maiden Sunshine Tour victory in the R700,000 Sun Fish River Sun Challenge.

He was buffeted by winds gusting up to 55 kilometres per hour as he made a double-bogey on 10 and followed that with two bogeys in succession on the next two holes, before storming home with a birdie on 15, eagle on 16, par on 17 and birdie on 18 to trump Danie van Tonder by two strokes.

“I knew it was going to be tough when I saw the wind turn on us this morning,” he said. “I knew I had to stay patient because there were going to be bad shots hit and bogeys made. So just kept myself going.”

He had a great start, leaping put ahead of Jason Viljoen and Toby Tree, with whom he shared the 36-hole lead, with a pair of birdies on the opening two holes. “That helped me get through the tough patches,” he said.

But things got tough from the sixth hole, where he made what he called a ‘good bogey’. He made another bogey on seven, but things started looking up. “I had a good turn with birdies on eight and nine, and then the stretch from 10 to 14 was as tough as I’ve ever played this course.

“I’ve played this course quite a few times and I had some amateur success on it. I knew if I could get that stretch out of the way with not too much damage, I’d be okay,” he added.

PGA Tour LatinoAmerica – Vicenzo Punta del Este Open Copa NEC

Only 13 months into his career as a professional, Guillermo Pereira of Santiago, Chile claimed his first PGA TOUR Latinoamérica victory with the authority of a veteran.

Going bogey-free on the final day, the 21-year old carded an impressive 7-under 63 to secure the Roberto De Vicenzo Punta del Este Open Copa NEC title by five shots. He finished his solid week at Club del Lago Golf at 16-under 264.

In addition to becoming the first player from Chile to win on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, at the age of 21 years, 6 months, 16 days, Pereira also became the second youngest champion in Tour history.

Outright leader after the second round, Pereira went on the attack halfway thru today’s final round and gave no chances to his closest contender Tom Whitney. The 27-year old from Fort Collins, Colorado carded 3-under 67 to finish solo second at 11-under.

He gained three shots on his last two holes, birdie-eagle, to take the club house lead and eventually, none of the players behind could catch up with him.

Fellow countrymen Federico Maccario and Enrico Di Nitto are ties for second place one shot further. They both signed for 69.

France’s Raphaël Marguery had solid round, 67, to finish at 4th place on his own a shot back.

Overnight leader, Tom Shadbolt, could not beat the par today and finished 5th tie with Robin Goger, Uli Weinhandl and Thomas Elissalde.
