ALPS Tour Golf - Vigevano Open

Matt Wallace has made history by achieving a remarkable fourth consecutive victory on the Alps Tour moving to World No. 301

The Moor Park golfer has won the Vigevano Open by three shots and become the first player to be victorious in four Alps Tour events in the same season, let alone four in succession.

Following his opening round of 65, the Pinner-based 26-year-old went three shots better yesterday with a 62 to move to the top of the leaderboard overnight with Swiss Julien Clement, who had a day to remember with an incredible 11-under-par 59 at Golf Vigevano.

European Tour – Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Hosted by the Rory Foundation

Rory McIlroy delighted the fans at The K Club as the home favourite overcame a stern challenge from Russell Knox to win the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Hosted by the Rory Foundation.

The Northern Irishman had spoken coming into the week of what a first professional win on Irish soil would mean to him and he fired a closing 69 to make it European Tour win number 13 in County Kildare.

The result is all the more impressive considering he had missed the cut at this event the last three seasons and he becomes the first home winner since Shane Lowry won as an amateur in 2009.

The four-time Major Championship winner came into the final round with a three-shot lead but was overtaken by Knox with three holes to play before two stunning approach shots gave him an birdie-par-eagle finish and a 12 under total.

PGA Tour – AT&T Byron Nelson

Sergio Garcia shot a 62 the first round he played at the AT&T Byron Nelson and tied for third as a 19-year-old kid in 1999. He won there five years later, again with Lord Byron watching.

With another win at the AT&T Byron Nelson, Garcia matched Seve Ballesteros for the most PGA TOUR victories by a Spanish-born player.

Garcia made a par on the first playoff hole Sunday to beat Brooks Koepka for his ninth career PGA TOUR victory. He then touched the likeness of Nelson that tops the championship trophy and wiped away tears while sharing a moment with Peggy Nelson, the late golfer's widow.

"I just said thanks for everything, that it was great to see her again," Garcia said. "It's been a very emotional week and obviously Peggy finished it off by making me cry, which I didn't think I was going to do."

The 36-year-old Spaniard overcame four bogeys, and two balls in the water on the back nine, for a 2-under 68 to get to 15-under 265. He was two groups ahead of the final pairing of hometown favorite Jordan Spieth and Koepka, who bogeyed the 14th and 15th holes and just missed a birdie chance at 18.

At 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation, Richy Werenski found himself in a four-way tie for the lead with just under nine holes to play in one of the Web.com Tour’s longest-standing events.

The former Georgia Tech golfer, who vaulted into contention with three birdies on his opening nine to reach 18-under for the week, closed with birdies on Nos. 12, 15 and 16 to post 21-under 265 with a final-round 65, good for his first Web.com Tour title and the event’s $121,500 first-place prize.

Sunshine Tour – Lombard Insurance Classic

In a dramatic finish to the Lombard Insurance Classic, Merrick Bremner prevailed on the fifth extra play-off hole against CJ du Plessis, to lift his fifth Sunshine Tour title.

Bremner, who started the day six shots back from overnight leader du Plessis, fired a stunning, bogey-free nine-under-par 63 to take the tournament to extra holes, as both players finished tied on 19-under-par.

“It’s kind of a relief actually, so that we don’t have to go back another time. It’s great to win and hard luck to CJ, he’s a fantastic competitor and it’s just a pity on the day I was better than him,” said Bremner.

Asian Development Tour – Ambassador ADT

Lin Wen-ko of Chinese Taipei cruised to an eight-shot victory at the US$120,000 Ambassador ADT on Sunday to give himself hope of reviving his professional golf career.

MENA Golf Tour – MahaSamutr Masters

Antonio Costa left the field marvelling at his sublime form this week when he completed an emphatic wire-to-wire victory in the MahaSamutr Masters, sponsored by PACE Development Corporation Plc, on Thursday.

Starting the day by a good six shots in front, the 27-year-old Chilean closed with a 68 to reach 15-under for the tournament at Banyan Golf Club, three clear of Venezuela’s Wolmer Murillo, who made the biggest charge of the day, carding a fluent seven-under 65 to keep things interesting.

India’s Rayhan Thomas continued his impressive run this season, following up his second-place finish last week at Mountain Creek with another creditable third to round off the Thailand leg of the tour on a high.

It was Costa who walked off the Banyan golf course with a grin of pride lighting his face. “I am really excited to win my first event outside Chile. I have really worked hard to get to this point,” said Costa after receiving the winner’s trophy from Kajohnphob Teepaganont of Pace Development Corporation.
