PGA Tour - Waste Management Phoenix Open

Matsuyama survived a four-hole playoff against Fowler to claim his second PGA Tour title at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Rickie Fowler hit two balls into the water on the par-4 17th hole to give Hideki Matsuyama an unexpected victory Sunday in the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

After letting a two-shot lead slip away on the 317-yard hole in regulation when he blasted a driver through the green and into the water, Fowler pulled a 5-wood into the lake on the fourth hole of a playoff to set up the deciding bogey. Matsuyama birdied the hole in regulation and two-putted for par from 6 feet in the playoff.

Fowler forced the playoff with a 10-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th after Matsuyama made an 18-footer. They each shot 4-under 67 to finish at 14-under 270.

The playoff was just as dramatic in front of another big crowd at TPC Scottsdale's Stadium Course on a sunny day with the temperature in the high 70s.

On the par-4 10th on the third extra hole, Fowler saved par with a 12-foot putt after driving into the left rough and skulling his approach long and right. Matsuyama made a 5-footer to extend the playoff.

They played the 18th hole twice to open overtime. On the first extra hole, Fowler chipped to a foot to set up a par after leaving his wedge approach short and right. Matsuyama rolled his 25-foot putt inside a foot. On the second playoff hole, Matsuyama matched Fowler's 15-foot birdie putt to extend it.

Matsuyama won the 2014 Memorial for his only other PGA TOUR title, beating Kevin Na on the first extra hole. The 23-year-old Japanese player tied for second last year in Scottsdale, a stroke behind Brooks Koepka.

European Tour - Omega Dubai Desert Classic

Danny Willett made a brilliant clutch putt on the last to win the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in dramatic style at Emirates Golf Club.

The Englishman began the day with a one-shot lead and opened that up to three shots twice on Sunday afternoon, but a birdie on the last from Andy Sullivan and a birdie-birdie finish from Rafa Cabrera-Bello meant he needed to make a 15-foot putt for the title.

And make it he did, the 28 year old showing nerves of steel to send the ball down the slope, left-to-right and into the cup to seal his fourth European Tour win.

"I'm ecstatic," he said. "You can't buy that feeling, coming down the back nine, the last three holes, in contention in a golf tournament. It's something that you can't pay for in life. You've got to earn it.

"Coming down the last with all the situations that were going on. It's just nice to know that I can dig deep there and produce.

You'd love to win by five or six every time you win, but when you win in that fashion, it does feel that little bit extra special - Danny Willett

"It's a relatively daunting last hole. I needed to make a four to win. So I'm just delighted with how I dug deep and found it."

Asian / Japan Golf Tour - Leopalace21 Myanmar Open

South Africa’s Shaun Norris kept his composure and shrugged off the challenges of his closest rivals by carding a one-under-par 71 to win the Leopalace21 Myanmar Open on Sunday.

The South African was a bundle of nerves in his front-nine but regained his advantage with a flawless inward-nine which helped clinch his second Asian Tour title by four shots at the Royal Mingalardon Golf and Country Club.

Korea’s Jeunghun Wang closed with a 69 to finish in fourth place while India’s S.S.P. Chawarasia and American Casey O’Toole shared fifth place on matching 270 totals.

Despite holding a seven-shot advantage overnight, victory was not straight forward for Norris as he went out in 38 with two birdies and four bogeys.

Web.com Tour – Club Colombia Championship presented by Claro

Colombian Sebastian Muñoz two-putted the 72nd hole for birdie to win the Club Colombia Championship presented by Claro in front of his friends and family on Sunday.

With the city of Bogota watching, the 23-year-old University of North Texas alum carded a final-round even-par 71 and posted 12-under-par 272, one-stroke better than Matt Atkins (68), and Richy Werenski (68).

Muñoz collected a check for $126,000 at Country Club de Bogota during the trophy ceremony to move into the top spot on the Web.com Tour money list.

“I’m in shock,” said Muñoz, the newest member of the Tour. “I am very happy with the result. To be honest, I never imagined I could win at the beginning of the week.”

The trophy was up for grabs most of Sunday afternoon after Muñoz bogeyed the third and seventh holes to relinquish the lead. With the help of the crowd, second-year pro bounced back with a birdie at the eight to regain a share of the lead.

“I think the key was that I believed in myself,” said Muñoz, who made a crucial par save on the 13th hole to stay in a tie for the lead. “Mentally that helps a lot.”

PGA Tour of Australasia – Oates Vic Open

Michael Long has played one of the most miraculous golf shots seen in the history of the Oates Vic Open to win the title.

After shooting a final round 3-under 69 Long ended regulation play tied for the lead on 13-under 275 with playing partner Matthew Millar who closed his round with three birdies. Playing the 18th hole in a sudden death playoff, it took just one trip down the par-5 for Long to be declared the winner and pick up the AU$45,000 winner's cheque.

However the circumstance in which Long claimed victory on the playoff hole were thrilling.

Teeing off, Long safely found the middle of the fairway. But in a bizarre stroke of misfortune he pulled his second shot well left, almost crossing into the hazard.

Staring at a horrible lie in thick rough, Long played an incredible shot to eight feet of the hole, delighting not only himself but also the crowd ringing the green 10 deep.

All through this drama, Millar watched on in amazement before standing over his own 25 foot birdie putt.

Unable to make it, Millar then handed the tournament's fate into Long's hands. With nerves of steel he drained his eight foot birdie putt to claim the 2016 Oates Vic Open.

Asian Development Tour - PGM CCM Rahman Putra Championship

Josh Salah of the United States claimed a hard earned victory at the PGM CCM Rahman Putra Championship after shooting a six-under-par 66 on Saturday.

The 24-year-old won by a mere stroke, thanks to two closing birdies, to finish on 17-under-par 271, defeating Shunya Takeyasu (70) of Japan at the RM200,000 (approximately US$46,600) Asian Development Tour (ADT) event.

Jordan Sherratt of Australia settled for third place after returning with a 71 for a 274 total while Soonsang Hong of Korea finished a further shot back in fourth position following a 69 at the Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia.

Salah stayed patient despite numerous weather delays during the week and was rewarded with his first ADT title after completing 26 holes on Saturday.

Trailing by four shots after the penultimate round, the American birdied the third hole before a bogey on the next hole ignited his title charge as he registered six birdies to cross the finishing line in style.
