European Tour - British Masters supported by Sky Sports

Matthew Fitzpatrick held off the challenge of Søren Kjeldsen, Shane Lowry and Fabrizio Zanotti to claim his first European Tour title at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.

The 21 year old rookie was the youngest player in the field but showed all the experience gained from his four previous top three finishes this season as he carded a closing 68 to finish two shots clear on 15 under at Woburn.

The Englishman had been in great form all week and became the fourth wire-to-wire winner this year as the event returned for the first time since 2008 with 57,047 fans turning out to watch the action.

"It's not going to sink in for a long time, I know that," he said.

It was a long day and I didn't really know what I had to do to win but I just sort of ground it out and managed to win. A great day - Matthew Fitzpatrick

"The fans have just been incredible to me and unbelievably supportive and I can't tell everyone how appreciative I am of that. Walking down every hole it's, 'Come on Matt' and it's amazing to have that support."

Japan Golf Tour – Honma Tourworld Cup at Trophia Golf

Challenge Tour – Volopa Irish Challenge hosted by Mount Wolseley Hotel Spa and Golf Resort

Tom Murray holed two massive putts, one in regulation play and one on the second play-off hole, to secure a dramatic maiden European Challenge Tour title at the Volopa Irish Challenge hosted by Mount Wolseley Hotel Spa and Golf Resort.

The Englishman, the son of former European Tour winner and Senior Tour player Andrew, proved that a steely winning mentality runs in the blood as he defied the odds to emerge victorious, before dedicating the victory to his girlfriend – captain of Great Britain’s Wheelchair Basketball team Sophie Carrigill.

It was an enthralling day from start to finish at the pristine Carlow venue and Murray’s roller-coaster round epitomised the drama, as he began with two bogeys to fall out of contention early doors before carding five birdies before the turn to move right back into the mix.

Asian Tour - Yeangder Tournament Players Championship

Asian Tour rookie Shaun Norris of South Africa earned a dream victory at the US$500,000 Yeangder Tournament Players Championship (TPC) after closing with a four-under-par 68 in tough conditions on Sunday.

The 33-year-old overcame swirling winds by shooting five birdies in his opening seven holes to defeat overnight leader Miguel Tabuena of the Philippines by two shots with a winning total of 12-under-par 204.

The quality on the Asian Tour is phenomenal. For me to accomplish what I have done is just great” – Shaun Norris

Tabuena was disappointed not to erase last year’s play-off defeat as he settled for second place after struggling to a 73 at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club.

Giwhan Kim of Korea, Hsu Hao-sheng of Chinese Taipei, Keith Horne of South Africa and Thai duo Panuphol Pittayarat and Natipong Srithong, who turned professional two months ago, tied for third place on matching 208s in the weather shortened event.

“Words can’t describe how I feel with this win. I’ve been playing well as of late and I wanted to win something in Asia so this is a dream come true,” said Norris.

PGA Tour China – Lushan Open

Even though he’s only been back on the Ping An Bank China Tour – PGA TOUR China Series for a month, The Year of Bryden Macpherson continues.

The Australian won the Lushan Open on Sunday at Lushan International Golf Club, picking up his second Series’ title in four weeks and moving to No. 2 on the Order of Merit. Macpherson, who began the final round trailing by a stroke, defeated T.K. Kim and third-round leader Sejun Yoon by two shots. Even a 72nd-hole double bogey couldn’t slow him down.

Seven weeks ago, Macpherson was completing his Web.com Tour season in Portland, Ore., the final tournament in what turned out to be a disappointing year on that Tour. While he didn’t earn a top-10 in any of his starts, finishing 126th on the Regular Season money list, Macpherson did show flashes of good form at various points during the year. Since returning to China, his game has come together, with his two victories and a tie for third in his four starts.

“Today was the first time since the start of the tournament that I felt good with my game. I didn’t feel like I had all of my game early in the tournament, and I managed to still score pretty well, which is important. Today I felt it,” Macpherson said following his round, his crystal trophy next to him.

Sunshine Tour – Sun Boardwalk Challenge at Humewood Golf Club

Chris Swanepoel loves nothing more than a good scrap, match-play style, and he used that to help him to a win over Ulrich van den Berg on Friday to take the R700,000 Sun Boardwalk Challenge at Humewood Golf Club.

The pair were locked on eight-under-par 208 after the 54 holes of regulation play, and it took an extra trip up the 18th before Swanepoel birdied the first hole of the sudden-death play-off to win his fourth Sunshine Tour title, and his second in a play-off.

“This was my third play-off and my second time winning from one,” he said. “It’s not ideal to be in a play-off, but I think I’m a good match-play player, so I tried to play match-play against Ulrich.”

The pair finished three shots clear of Andrew Georgiou, Lindane Ndwandwe and Mark Fensham.

In the end, Swanepoel carded a level-par 72 in regulation play after Van den Berg missed an eagle putt by a fraction on the 16th while Swanepoel scrambled a good par after time was running out on a ball search for his tee shot which had strayed well right into some thick grass.

“I’m glad they found my ball in the mealies there,” laughed Swanepoel. “Luckily I’m from Warmbaths so I’m used to the thick stuff.”
