PGA Tour - Barbasol Championship

Scott Piercy’s recent struggles on the golf course were almost a distant memory as he walked the back nine of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National, armed with a four-stroke lead.

“I just knew it was a matter of time coming back and it’s been a long road, but my whole goal after having surgery was to come back better,” Piercy said. “The way I played today compared to my last two victories was a lot better. I mean, I flushed it, I struck the ball so well, and so I would say I’m kind of where we imagined I would be.”

Piercy birdied four of the first six holes to take a four-shot lead over his closest competitors, a lead he maintained throughout the afternoon as different challengers tried to overtake him. In the end, Piercy’s consistent play was enough to earn him his third PGA TOUR victory and first since the RBC Canadian Open in 2012.

Challenge Tour - Fred Olsen Challenge de España

Welshman Rhys Davies held off a spirited charge from Australian Geoff Drakeford to claim his second Challenge Tour title of the season with victory in the Fred Olsen Challenge de Espana in the Canary Islands.

Starting the final day four clear of the field, Davies was caught by the seventh before pulling clear over the back nine at Tecina Golf on the holiday island of La Gomera. Three birdies in his last six holes completed a final round 68 for a winning 22 under par total of 262.

“It was a little closer than I might have hoped,” admitted Davies. “But it’s great to win again.

Web.com Tour – Stonebrae Classic

Korea’s Si Woo Kim rolled in a three-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to defeat Wes Roach and Jamie Lovemark and win the Web.com Tour’s Stonebrae Classic. The trio began the day as 54-hole co-leaders and each fired 2-under-par 68s to finish at 12-under 268 and force the fourth playoff of the season.

Kim, who turned 20 years old on June 28th, became the second-youngest tournament winner in the Tour’s 26-year history. Jason Day was 19 when he captured the 2007 Legend Financial Group Classic near Cleveland.

“I was happy to have another try,” said Kim of his birdie putt. “I was very fortunate. This is very big for me.”

The win was worth $108,000 and vaulted Kim from No. 67 to No. 16 on the Tour’s money list with five tournaments left on the Regular Season schedule. The top 25 at the end of the Regular Season will earn PGA TOUR cards for the 2015-16 season.

PGA Tour Canada – Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel

California’s J.J. Spaun broke through for his first Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada win on Sunday, shooting a final round 5-under 67 to win the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel.

The 24-year old moves into the top spot on the season-long Order of Merit with $70,263, earning an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open to make his PGA TOUR debut next week at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont.

“It’s a huge relief. I knew if I at least made pars on my way in I'd have some sort of chance at winning,” said Spaun, who finished at 18-under par, one shot ahead of Moscow, Pennsylvania’s Nicholas Reach. “I've put in a lot of hard work. I had to change a few things with my regimen and putting my career in the top priority spot, and it shows that the hard work has been paying off.”

The win gives Spaun a $25,813 lead atop the Order of Merit over Drew Weaver, who will join Spaun next week at Glen Abbey along with Albin Choi as the top three players on the season-long money list. The San Diego State University grad has been the most consistent player on the Mackenzie Tour this season, never finishing outside the top-16 and posting five straight 10 finishes capped off by the win.

“I'm in a good position. I've got to keep playing solid and keep that top spot under my belt and see how it goes,” said Spaun of the season-long quest to earn status on the Web.com Tour
