PGA Tour – Frys.com Open

Bae Sang-moon won the season-opening Frys.com Open on Sunday by stretching his lead to as many as six shots in the hot sunshine of Napa Valley, leaving plenty of room for a few mistakes that only made it interesting for a short time.

He closed with a 1-over 73 at Silverado, the first player on the PGA Tour since Ben Crane at the St. Jude Classic in June to win with a final round over par. Bae took three putts from the collar of the green on the par-5 18th for a two-shot victory over Steven Bowditch, who had a 67.

"There's always pressure on Sunday because other players behind me are charging, so I tried to maintain my focus and play my own game," Bae said.

Bae Sang-moon set a big goal for the new PGA Tour season. He wants to end it at home in South Korea by playing in the Presidents Cup.

He couldn't have asked for a better start.

European Tour – Portugal Masters

Alexander Levy won the Portugal Masters after the third and final round had to be abandoned due to heavy rain in Vilamoura.

In a tournament already reduced to 54 holes by lightning and heavy rain earlier in the week at Oceånico Victoria Golf Club, another deluge left parts of the course unplayable shortly after the final group had teed off at 1pm, and the decision was taken a couple of hours later to call the result at 36 holes.

Tournament Director José Maria Zamora stated: “The forecast for the final round was fine, but after two unexpected very heavy downpours on a course already saturated, it would have taken several hours to make it playable again.

“Over the course of the week we had 75mm of rain, and 12mm this afternoon, and unfortunately we had to curtail the tournament after 36 holes despite the tireless work of the greenkeeping staff.”

The 24 year old Levy, whose rounds of 63 and 61 saw him finish with an 18 under par total, took his second European Tour title by three shots from Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts as a result – both had parred the opening hole today before play was suspended.

“It feels very special,” said Levy. “If at the start of the year you had said I would win two tournaments I would say ‘never!’ to you.

Japan Golf Tour – Toshin Golf Tournament In Central

In-Hoi Hur closed with a 5-under 67 on Sunday and he cruised to a 4-stroke win at the Toshin Golf Tournament In Central.

Hur finished his first Japan Golf Tour title at 28-under-par 260.

He got off to a quick start on the Central Course at Toshin Golf Club as he birdied the first and third. After a birdie at the sixth, Hur stumbled to a bogey on the par-3 eighth.

Hur bounced back with birdies on nine and 10. However, he faltered to his third bogey of the week at the 11th, but quickly erased that mistake with the sixth birdie of his round on No. 12. Hur ran off five straight pars before making a birdie at the last.

Last week's winner Seung-Hyuk Kim also carded a 67 in the final round and he ended alone in second at minus-24. Tomohiro Kondo fired a 7-under 65 on Sunday and he grabbed third place a 22-under-par 266.

One Asia

China’s Li Hao-tong became the youngest winner on OneAsia today when the 19-year-old claimed the US$1 million Nanshan China Masters.

He triumphed by four strokes after shooting a final round one-under-par 70 at Nanshan International Golf Club in extreme wind.

Australian Lee Jun Seok fired a 69 to claim sole possession of second place, while Todd Baek from Korea ended two shots further adrift in third position after posting a 74.

It has been a remarkable run for Li as he also won the Henan Open on the PGA TOUR China Series two weeks ago by eight strokes.

Sunshine Tour – Sun Boardwalk Golf Challenge

Titch Moore birdied the 18th at Humewood Golf Club on Friday to win the inaugural Sun Boardwalk Golf Challenge by one shot.

“It’s inspiring to play in front of home fans and I’ve got a great support base here from my family and my dad. To win here in front of the locals is awesome,” he said.

The Port Elizabeth local came from behind during the final round and secured the ninth win of his career, which gave the home crowds reason to celebrate.

“I was playing nicely coming into this week, but haven’t been able to finish off the events over the past few months. I been working hard on my putting and to succeed today is a phenomenal feeling,” he said.

Roberto Lupini led by two shots at the start of the day, but the Big Easy Tour graduate was unable to hold onto his lead and shot 73 to slip back to three-under for the tournament. He none-the-less made a good challenge for the title and birdied the 17th before coming painfully close to sinking a long birdie putt at the 18th that would have forced a playoff.

PGA Tour LatinoAmerica - Trans American Power Products CRV Mazatlan Open

American Tyler McCumber won the Argentine Jorge Fernandez Valdes on a playoff hole for his second title of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica in three weeks.

His victory in the Trans American Power Products CRV Mazatlan Open was full of drama in another day of intense sun and wind in the field of Estrella del Mar Golf & Beach Resort Condos.

“It was something dramatic, like going on a roller coaster, but it ended well,” said the champion 23 years on a title that was about to escape in regulation.

Leading by a stroke after 54 holes by, McCumber kept the lead with just two holes to play, but made a costly double-bogey on the 17th that put him to pursue Fernández Valdés.

The Argentine had just secured the lead in the clubhouse with a 68 and a total of 10-under par 278 McCumber needed a birdie on the 72nd hole to equal and responded to pressure holing a putt for birdie four meters that extended the tournament.

The additional hole Fernández Valdés missed his tee shot to the left and from the rough passed the green with his second shot and went with a bogey 5 McCumber, who reached the green in two, ended up making two putts for par and title.

“It feels great,” McCumber, who two weeks ago won his first title in fifteen months as a professional in the Ecuador Open said. “I worked very hard in the summer and it’s nice to see the results. You do not always get the results as soon as well, but I’ve been fortunate to put myself in good positions and capitalize.
