Padraig Harrington is the Open Champion after a thrilling climax at Carnoustie where he defeated Sergio Garcia by a stroke in a four hole playoff after the pair had finished tied on 7 under par. In third place, just a stroke behind was Argentina's Andres Romero. Harrington moves to World Number 6, equalling his highest ever ranking, Garcia returns to the top 10 in 8th position and Romero climbs to World Number 51.

On the PGA Tour Joe Ogilvie won the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee by four strokes, a final round of 67 including a holed wedge for eagle on the 16th. He climbs 74 places to World Number 135 while Tim Clark, second for a second consecutive week moves up to World Number 39.

This week's other winners were Tom Scherrer at the Price Cutter Charity Championship on the Nationwide Tour and Anders Schmidt Hansen at the MAN NO Open on the European Challenge Tour.
