Week 8 - HENRIK STENSON WINS THE WGC-ACCENTURE MATCH PLAY AND REACHES WORLD NUMBER 5
Henrik Stenson became the first Swede, and only the second European, to win a World Golf Championships event as he defeated defending champion Geoff Ogilvy in the final of the WGC - Accenture Match Play at the Gallery Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona. He reaches the highest World Ranking ever for a Swedish player as he jumps 3 places to World Number 5, bettering the 7th position achieved by Jesper Parnevik on May 14th 2000.
Fred Funk won the Mayakoba Golf Classic on the second hole of a playoff with Jose Coceres to become only the second man to win a PGA TOUR event after winning on the Champions Tour. The 2005 Players Champion moves up to World Number 69, a rise of 29 places.
This week's other winners were Nicholas Thompson at the HSBC NZ PGA Championship and Louis Oosthuizen at the Telkom PGA Championship.
