Phil Tataurangi shot a final round 10-under par 62 to win the Invensys Classic in Las Vegas and he becomes the 15th first-time winner on the PGA TOUR in 2002. Tataurangi improves his world ranking by 92 positions and for the first time in his career the Kiwi is now inside the World Top-100 at No.74. Phil, who started off the year at World No.474, is now the ninth highest ranked Australasian and the second highest ranked New Zealand after Michael Campbell at No.19. Jeff Sluman’s runner-up finish elevates the American to No.41 in the world whilst the same finish for Stuart Appleby moves him up 8 places to No.37.

In the 22nd owgr event of the 2002 Japan Golf Tour season, Toru Taniguchi claimed his 4th victory of the year and Toru moves up 10 positions and into the World Top-50 at No.50. Toru’s 4 victories in 16 starts makes him the leader of the Japan Golf Tour money list with YEN 122,629,000.

In the 2002 Victorian PGA Championship at Kew Golf Club, Canberra’s Craig Carmichael beat Craig Jones in a play-off to take the $18,000 first prize. Carmichael is the new world No. 273.

On the Buy.Com Tour, David Branshaw won the Gila River Classic at Wild Horse Pass Resort. David moves to World No. 594.
